Dear CAPCSD Member,

Campus is buzzing with activity, and whether you're fully prepared or just getting started, we're here to support you as you gear up for the year. In this edition of our newsletter, you'll find updates on CAPCSD programming and opportunities for volunteer involvement.

A quick reminder: the Call for Papers for the 2025 CAPCSD Conference is now open. This year’s theme, Advancing Teaching and Learning (ATL), will take place in Atlanta. We encourage you to consider submitting a proposal or application.

Curious about joining the CAPCSD Board of Directors? This fall, the Nominations Committee will be seeking candidates for the positions of Secretary and President-Elect. Serving on the CAPCSD Board is a significant professional achievement. This month, we're spotlighting the role of Secretary, currently held by Christie Needham.

The President-Elect position is a three-year term, beginning as President-Elect, progressing to President, and concluding as Immediate Past-President. One of the aspects I truly value about this role is the collaborative nature of the ‘President Trio’—President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past President. This structure fosters a dynamic leadership team, with each member contributing their unique experiences and wisdom. We hope this information inspires you to consider self-nominating or nominating a colleague with the passion and skills to lead our organization. Keep an eye out for the call for nominations later this fall.

Each month, we’ll feature a different CAPCSD committee. This month, we're excited to highlight the Online Professional Development Committee. Check out their work in the webinar schedule as well.

Don’t forget to review the details and links for this year’s CAPCSD student scholarships. Please share this information with your students and encourage them to apply.

Happy Fall!

With gratitude

Katie Strong

CAPCSD President

Message from the CAPCSD Secretary

The CAPCSD Secretary holds several important roles with the Board of Directors. Most people know the Secretary takes minutes, which is true! The Secretary takes notes at all Board of Directors meetings and Business Meetings. These notes or minutes are then sent to the Board Members for review, and then voted upon making them official. In addition to that, the Secretary manages all online voting practices and votes and is responsible for tracking the strategic plan. The Secretary also actively participates in Board discussions and provides organizational support as needed.

Call for Volunteers - Reviewers

Have you been wondering how you can get involved in a short-term way with CAPCSD?

There are two short-term volunteer opportunities in which you may apply from now through Friday, September 13 at 8 PM ET. Apply by clicking here

You may apply for both opportunities but CAPCSD limits volunteers to serving on one review group. Note that to apply for both, you must complete the Survey Monkey application twice.

Who? Conference Planning Committee is seeking volunteers from CAPCSD member programs.

What? Review and score Call for Papers and Posters submissions for the 2025 Annual Conference.

When? Reviews will be

assigned approximately Monday, October 7

due approximately Wednesday, November 6

Who? Clinic Director Academy Ad Hoc Committee is seeking volunteers from CAPCSD member programs.

What? Review and score applications for the 2025 Clinical Educators' Academy.

When? Reviews will be

assigned approximately Thursday, November 7

due approximately Thursday, December 5

Where? Reviewers will work from the location of their choice via a web portal called Cadmium Scorecard to complete assigned reviews.

Why? The committee wants to provide individuals with a short-term way to get involved and try out volunteering for CAPCSD. Volunteer reviewers help provide transparency in the selection process. If there are enough volunteers, the committee will not be reviewers.

Note: Selected Call for Papers reviewers may submit a proposal for the annual conference.

Note: Selected Clinical Educators' Academy reviewers may not apply to the academy.

Committee Highlight: Online Professional Development Committee

CAPCSD's Online Professional Development Committee has been working to meet their charge to develop new online educational opportunities for members and programs.

The OPD Committee is chaired by Jana Waller, who is joined by original committee members, Samantha Lewis, Jayne Jaskolski, and Jessica Sullivan. These experienced committee members have been essential to development of online professional development content, and we thank them as they begin their final year of service. Jacqueline Towson and Yunfang Zheng will continue their contributions to the committee, and the committee recently welcomed Paula Pineda, Erica Williams, and Robert Serianni.

A variety of speakers will deliver an exceptional fall series of webinars, and we hope that you will attend many of the webinars. The OPD committee developed webinars focused on the topics of artificial intelligence, clinical education considerations, ethics, student supports, and diversity, equity, and inclusion. One new change the OPD committee is eager to trial is the option to purchase a bundle of webinars at a discounted price. You can read more about webinar bundles below.

You can also locate information about webinars at https://www.capcsd.org/. On the top menu bar is a clickable link to Professional Development where you can select Webinars from the drop-down menu: https://www.capcsd.org/webinars/. A current list of webinars is located there and updated frequently. More webinars will be added for the fall 2024 as details are finalized.  Webinar information is also shared by email approximately 4 weeks before each webinar, so look for information to arrive in your mailboxes, too.

While the committee moderates the fall 2024 webinar series, webinar planning for 2025 has already begun. Suggestions on topics of interest are always welcomed and encouraged. Please reach out with your ideas to vpopd@capcsd.org

In closing, the committee would like to send our appreciation and thanks to Colleen Schneider, Professional Development Manager for CAPCSD, who supports all the efforts of the OPD committee.
