Dear CAPCSD Member,
As this newsletter letter goes out, our thoughts are with all of our CAPCSD member programs affected by Hurricane Helene. In times of natural disaster, the resilience and mutual support within our community become even more crucial. We stand ready to assist our colleagues as they navigate the challenges of recovery and rebuilding.
This month in our newsletter we are featuring the work of two committees, Nominations and Honors & Awards. The calls for nominations and honors and awards will both open soon. We invite you also to consider nominating yourself or a colleague for the open elected board positions, President-Elect and Secretary. Also, please consider nominating a colleague for one of the three awards that CAPCSD offers annually.
We hope you’ll join us at an upcoming CAPCSD Webinar. We are offering a great line up of topics from AI and inclusivity to collaborative partnerships in clinical education in October.
As we move forward together, your engagement and support continue to be the cornerstone of CAPCSD's success. Thank you for your dedication to our field and our organization.
With gratitude,

Message from the CAPCSD Treasurer
|
Did you know the primary job of the Board of Directors (BoD) is to take care of the CAPCSD organization? A healthy CAPCSD means continued support for our members and professions. As treasurer, my specific responsibility is to propose and implement the annual budget in alignment with the BoD’s short- and long-term strategic plans. During the fiscal year, I keep a close eye on CAPCSD’s profits and losses and manage its financial investments. Earnings, expenditures, and investments are reported to the BoD monthly and available to the membership on the website and during CAPCSD’s public business meeting.
Fortunately, CAPCSD generates more revenue annually than we spend. This means the organization can provide critical resources and financial assistance to our member programs, educators, students, and current and future leaders in the disciplines. For example, CAPCSD covers nearly 40% of the cost per person for attendance to our annual conference. We use revenue to implement the Lisa Scott Leadership Academies, eLearning clinical education courses, DEI academies, admissions summits, and the clinic director basic trainings. We also award up to $170,000 in scholarships to graduate students from member programs in the disciplines. Then, we add some of our earnings to our investment account, creating reserve funds critical to the strength and endurance of our organization.
Careful planning from current and past CAPCSD treasurers and BoD enables us now to support our members and their programs even in the face of increased costs, and other U.S. and global economic and work force challenges. Importantly, we do so with an emphasis on maintaining CAPCSD’s fitness and longevity. As a BoD, we must continue to pursue ways to protect and grow CAPCSD’s net revenue stream without negatively impacting our mission to support, promote, and advance higher education programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders. As always, we welcome any ideas or questions you may have.

Now is a great time to use communication tools in CSDCAS to reach out to potential applicants to share information. This may include information about your program, reminders of application deadlines, and requests for additional materials.
In CSDCAS, you can use the Email Templates page under the Management tab to create standard emails that can quickly be sent out at different stages of the application process. Some examples might include:
- Invitations to virtual open houses
- Reminders of approaching deadlines
- Request to submit missing documents
You can easily send emails to groups of applicants based on application status, designation, local status, and other variables. Use the search function and filter by the variables for which you are interested. Under Search Actions, select Email Checked Applicants. This will allow you to specify your messages to particular groups. You can also send emails to applicants that you add to the Clipboard or through the List Manager. Examples include:
- Reminders of deadlines for applications which are “in progress”
- Reminders to submit missing documents for applications which are “undelivered”
