Excellence * Visionary Leadership * Collaboration

Dear CAPCSD Member,

Welcome to summer! I hope you enjoy reading through the June newsletter for exciting updates from the Clinic Director Academy Ad Hoc Committee. We also have some great webinars slated for the summer. Topics include the Interstate Compact, Holistic Graduate Admissions, “Just in Time” Supports, Accommodations in Clinical Education, and Implementing Ethics Education. I hope you find something of interest and helpful to your program.

I want to take a moment and thank the Board of Directors, the CAPCSD Staff, and our amazing community of CSD educators and administrators for the honor to serve this organization as President over the last year. I enjoyed the role immensely and have learned so much about the organization and leadership over the last year. This privilege has been a career highlight!

On July 1, we will welcome and congratulate Katie Strong as the 2024-2025 CAPCSD President and Tricia Montgomery as President Elect. Congratulations also goes to Ashley Harkrider who has been elected for a second term as Treasurer and Heidi Verticchio who will join the Board of Directors as VP of Professional Development. We will also extend a heartfelt thank you to Jenny Taylor, current Past President, for her many years of dedicated service to CAPCSD.

I look forward to continuing to serve CAPCSD as Past President next year. I look forward to CAPCSD growing and continuing to connect, inspire and promote higher education in Communication Sciences and Disorders. I’m forever grateful for the opportunity to serve as the 2023-2024 CAPCSD President.

Sincerely,

Jenn

New! 2025 Clinical Educators Academy

The CAPCSD Board of Directors has approved a proposal from the Clinic Director Academy Ad Hoc Committee for a day and a half Clinical Educators Academy to be held April 22-23, 2025  prior to the 2025 CAPCSD conference in Atlanta, GA. Based on the principles of human-centered leadership, this event will provide an opportunity for new and experienced leaders in clinical education to explore skills needed to foster well-being, engaged team-building, and productive conflict resolution in clinical education environments. Innovative strategies for managing challenging roles and responsibilities in clinical education programs will be addressed, and participants will construct an ongoing peer network supporting best practices in clinical leadership. Due to the format of this event, attendance will be limited. Stay tuned for more information - program details and registration applications will be sent to CAPCSD members in early October.

Calling All Regional Clinical Director Networks!

Numerous regional clinical director/educator networks have developed organically across the country.  These groups serve as a valuable support for CSD clinical educators, providing opportunities to connect and share information and resources with colleagues across academic programs. CAPCSD is in the process of developing a contact list to foster better access to these groups. Please consider sharing your group’s name, region served, and contact email(s) that we can share in a listing on the CAPCSD website. Information should be emailed to VPCE@CAPCSD.org.

Thanks!

Kevin McNamara

CAPCSD Vice President for Clinical Education

  • § 668.16(r). Requires institutions to provide students with geographically accessible clinical or externship opportunities related to and required for completion of the credential or licensure in a recognized occupation, within 45 days of the completion of other required coursework.
