Dear CAPCSD Member,
With spring in full bloom, I find myself eagerly anticipating our upcoming Annual Conference in Atlanta in just two weeks! From April 23-26, we'll gather at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for "ATL - Advancing Teaching & Learning." I'm thrilled to share that we've reached a record number of registrants, with over 600 colleagues already confirmed to attend! This promises to be an enriching experience with opportunities to earn up to 2.65 AAA / 2.65 ASHA CEUs, network with your peers, and learn about the latest developments in our field, including generative AI applications for faculty and students.
For those unable to join us in person, our Virtual Conference will be held on April 24-25 from 11:00 AM to 5:30 PM ET. This year's virtual offering has been expanded to 1.0 CEUs, featuring 10 hours of engaging content from invited speakers and selected presenters aligned with our conference theme. Please note that these sessions will be available live only and not on-demand, so plan accordingly!
I'd like to extend a special invitation to our Business Meeting on Saturday, April 26, at 8:00 AM ET at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. The Board of Directors looks forward to providing updates on the 2024-2025 fiscal year and engaging with all of you on matters important to our organization. Additionally, the Board continues to welcome your input through our resolution process. If you have ideas that you believe the Board should address, please consider submitting a resolution. The newsletter contains detailed information about the resolution format and submission process, which can be directed to our Executive Director, Ned Campbell, at any time during the year.
I'm pleased to announce the slate of candidates for our 2025 elections. Christie Needham from Baldwin Wallace University has been nominated for President-Elect, and Kelly Rutherford from Marshall University for Secretary. Program directors will receive the official slate on April 26th and will vote on behalf of their programs, with voting closing on May 12th. Results will be announced the week of May 19th. I encourage program directors to solicit input from their faculty, clinic directors, and staff before casting their votes.
It's with great pride that we'll be celebrating the accomplishments of our exceptional colleagues during the Honors & Awards Presentation on Friday, April 25, at 7:50 AM ET at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis. Please join us in recognizing Carol Dudding (Honors of the Council), Renee Bogschutz (Distinguished Contribution Award), and Lauren Calandruccio, Jessica Sullivan, Becca Jarzynski, and Lucía Méndez (Excellence in Diversity Award) for their outstanding contributions to our profession.
I'm excited to share that CAPCSD and ASHA have just released the 2023-2024 CSD Education Survey National Aggregate Data Report. With an impressive 90% participation rate among the 365 institutions surveyed, this collaborative effort provides valuable insights into undergraduate and graduate education in CSD, covering program characteristics, applications, admissions, enrollment, graduation, faculty, and funding. This report is an invaluable resource for understanding our personnel pipeline and identifying trends in our field.
As a token of our appreciation for your continued support, I hope you've received and are enjoying the CAPCSD swag that the Membership Committee sent to program directors at each member program. These items represent our gratitude for your engagement and dedication to CAPCSD's mission and activities.
Whether I'll connect with you in Atlanta, see you online during our Virtual Conference, or collaborate with you throughout the year in other ways, I'm grateful for your contribution to our community. The strength of CAPCSD lies in every member's collective wisdom and commitment to excellence in communication sciences and disorders education. I look forward to our continued work together in advancing our field and supporting our students and programs, regardless of how and when we may connect.
With gratitude,
