Dear CAPCSD Members,
I am looking forward to our 43rd Annual Conference next week! The program is full of sessions that promise to engage your mind and spark your imagination. Our plenary sessions on Stress Management and Mental Wellness in Academia and Examining DEI Through the Lens of BIPOC Students are both sure to generate ideas and stimulate conversations with your colleagues throughout the conference. Many of the sessions will provide useful information that attendees can bring back to their programs, spark discussions on campus, and inspire change - reimagining your curriculum, sustainability, creating inclusive environments, improving your admissions process, and the always popular problem-solving and information exchanges. Our hope is that the content of this conference will benefit all members, even those that can’t join us in person. The CAPCSD conference is a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with old friends and build connections with new ones. On behalf of the Board of Directors and Conference Planning Committee, we look forward to seeing you there!

CAPCSD is proud of its longstanding financial investment in the future leaders of our profession. We received a substantial number of applicants in each of the scholarship categories: Ph.D., Plural Publishing Research doctoral and masters’ level, and the Frances J. Laven Service Award. We are pleased to congratulate the winners!
We couldn’t have completed this process without the diligent service provided by a cadre of over 60 reviewers representing programs across the country. We thank them for their commitment and effort in this process.

The CAPCSD IPP/IPE Committee focuses on supporting CSD programs as they develop, implement, and grow their interprofessional education practice and programs. The IPE/IPP Committee has had a busy year. In addition to revamping web resources on the IPE/IPP webpage, the committee conducted a series of four virtual Information Exchanges aimed at providing opportunities for networking and collaboration between member programs around issues related to IPE/IPP. The session recordings are available on the IPE/IPP webpage.
The IPE/IPP Committee is also collaborating with the Online Professional Development Committee to offer an IPE/IPP focused webinar at no cost for members. Dr. Danika Pfeiffer, Towson University, will speak about Designing and Measuring Interprofessional Education Experiences for School-based Collaborations. See the Upcoming Events below for a link to the registration.

The annual CSDCAS Applicant Data Report for the 2021-2022 cycle is now available! Check out the trends in applicant demographics and metrics, and see comparisons of accepted vs. denied applicants. With data on over 11,000 applicants annually, this report contains a lot of rich admissions information.

Nearly 80% of all SLP and Audiology programs in the country are using CSDCAS for their graduate admissions. If your program isn’t yet one of them, now is a great time to consider joining for the 2023-2024 cycle. The established programs that joined CSDCAS this year all saw an increase in the applications they received – a 41% average increase for SLP programs and a 101% average increase for Audiology programs. Plus, it is free for your university to participate! Contact Megan Woods at mwoods@capcsd.org to set up a demonstration and learn more about how CSDCAS can help your admissions process.

As always, please feel free to reach out with feedback on how CAPCSD can help facilitate your admissions process.
