Excellence * Visionary Leadership * Collaboration

Dear CAPCSD Member,

I am thankful I was able to visit with many of you during the Annual Conference in April. It was a wonderful time with many amazing sessions, events, and sun!

It is the end of another semester and a new set of graduates are ready to start their careers. I feel enthusiastic about the future of our profession as I watch these graduates set out on their new paths in the discipline. I am grateful to you for your contribution in preparing the next generation of professionals!

A reminder to encourage your faculty to update their CAPCSD member profiles when they login to the InfoHub on the website so they, too, can participate in all of the exciting opportunities offered throughout the year.

In warm regards,

Jennifer P. Taylor

President

NEW - A Guide for Future Practitioners in Audiology and
Speech-Language Pathology: Core Functions

The CAPCSD Board of Directors approved A Guide for Future Practitioners in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology: Core Functions on April 3, 2023. This document is intended as a guide for educational programs in speech-language pathology or audiology and individuals seeking a career in these professions. It identifies the core functions that individuals of such programs typically are expected to employ in didactic and clinical experiences to acquire the knowledge and demonstrate the competencies that will lead to graduation and successful entry into professional practice. This document replaces the Essential Functions document previously offered by CAPCSD, and continued use of the previous document is strongly discouraged.

The Core Functions document is available on the CAPCSD Academic and Clinical Resources page.

A Thank You Note for Volunteers!

CAPCSD wishes to thank the many volunteers for their dedication and hard work in support of our mission and strategic plan. The willingness to give their time and energy is greatly appreciated.  We are grateful for everything they have done and their contributions have not gone unnoticed.

Dear Volunteers - We thank you for your invaluable support and look forward to continuing our work together to promote and advance higher education programs in CSD.

Your CAPCSD Connection to the

CAA, CFCC, and AAB

Did you know that CAPCSD has an invited presence at the meetings of ASHA’s Council for Academic Accreditation (CAA,), Council for Clinical Certification (CFCC) and Academic Affairs Board (AAB)?

As non-voting liaisons at the CAA and the CFCC meetings, and as a voting member of the AAB meetings, CAPCSD representatives have an opportunity to listen and contribute to meeting discussions and offer an update on CAPCSD activities and member issues. Shubha Kashinath, VP of Research and Academic Affairs serves as the CAA liaison and AAB member, and Kevin McNamara, VP of Clinical Education serves as CFCC liaison. We invite you to take advantage of this opportunity to share input and concerns from your programs with these groups.

For CAA related issues (academic program standards and accreditation) and AAB issues (needs, trends and resources related to academic and faculty/researcher preparation) contact Shubha.

For CFCC issues (clinical certification standards and requirements) contact Kevin.

Not sure which council to address? Send your comments to either of us and we will direct them appropriately. We will consolidate and anonymize member program issues and share them in our liaison reports to preserve confidentiality.

Message from Deborah Ortiz, Executive Director

Dear CAPCSD Friends,

As many of you know, it was announced at the annual conference that I will retire as executive director on June 30th.

I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with all of you over the past seven years. The dedication, expertise, and constant support has been instrumental for CAPCSD to achieve its mission and goals. The impact in CSD is meaningful and long-lasting. It has been an honor to serve as executive director alongside such a committed group of individuals and professionals.

I am confident that CAPCSD will continue to thrive under the guidance of the board and its future leadership. I am committed to assist in any way I can to ensure a smooth transition and will remain available as a resource through the end of the year.

I will miss my time with you but am excited to see CAPCSDs continued growth in the future. Thank you for your friendship and all that I have learned and experienced. I will look back on my time with CAPCSD with fondness and gratitude and will carry the memories with me into the next chapter of life – retirement!

Wishing you all the best with one final Cheers!

~ Deborah
