Excellence * Visionary Leadership * Collaboration

Dear Members,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, happy Pride Month 2024 to our members. Through our commitment to DEI, CAPCSD continues to promote an inclusive, welcoming culture that all members can be proud of. We celebrate the invaluable contributions of LGBTQ+ professionals in CSD.

As my term as President comes to a close the end of this month, I want to thank each one of you for helping me grow as a leader and volunteer for CAPCSD. This is an organization that holds a special place for me. Many years ago when I attended my first CAPCSD annual conference, I found individuals who understood what my day-to-day life was like in academia. Since that time, I have been a believer in CAPCSD's mission to support, promote, and advance higher education in CSD programs. It is the place where I know I can learn, grow, and collaborate. Thank you for the opportunity to serve.

I know you are in great hands under the direction of incoming President, Jennifer Simpson, and the Board of Directors. See you in New Orleans in 2024!

In warm regards,

Jennifer P. Taylor

President

Thank You and Farewell

During the April spring business meeting in Orlando, Jennifer Taylor recognized the three board members who term off the Board of Directors June 30th.

It is with much gratitude that we recognize them for their many contributions and years of volunteer service to CAPCSD.

Update: The Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC)

ASHA is working to make it easier for audiologists and speech-language pathologists who wish t practice across state lines, both in person and via telepractice:

The Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) is an occupational licensure compact which allows professionals to practice in multiple states without having to obtain additional state licenses. The compact addresses increased demand to provide/receive audiology and speech-language pathology services and authorizes in-person and telepractice across state lines. States participating in the compact communicate and exchange information, including verification of licensure and disciplinary sanctions; however, compact states retain the ability to regulate practice in their state” (ASHA 2023).

At this time, the ASLP-IC has been enacted into law in 25 states. Procedures to operationalize the compact are currently under development, with an anticipated implementation in late 2023/2024. Once the Compact is fully operational, licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists residing in participating states will be able to apply for a privilege to practice in-person and through telehealth in ASLP-IC states.

More information on the ASLP-IC and states participating to date may be found below.

Membership Renewal Reminder

Program Directors,

There are only 22 days until your CAPCSD membership expires.  We hope this won't be the last we see of you, especially considering the amazing events and opportunities we have in store for this coming year.

It is not too late to renew your membership and there are two ways to do so:

  • Use the invoice attached to the renewal email you received to pay by credit card or download the invoice to pay by check.
  • Pay by credit card when you are logged in to the member Info Hub. Instructions are provided in the email.

Remember that you will find invoices and payment receipts for all your transactions with CAPCSD in the Info Hub - membership dues, conference registration, webinars, etc. This feature is always available for you.

It is also a good time to be sure your faculty, clinic directors, and staff have activated their individual CAPCSD membership at no cost. It is easy to do and ensures they are directly connected with CAPCSD and stay up-to-date about our many programs - webinars, student scholarship opportunities, academies, annual conference, eLearning courses, volunteer opportunities, and more.

Feel free to share this newsletter to everyone in your department to inquire if they are receiving communications from CAPCSD.  If not, all they need to do is click the button below to create their personal CAPCSD membership using their university email.

Salary Survey

CAPCSD will conduct its 2023 Salary Survey and collect data from member programs for the 2022-2023 academic year. This is an important resource for our members and will allow us to update our findings from the 2018 survey.

The survey will be developed in conjunction with DataWise who will administer the survey through its system. They will ensure your institution’s confidentiality and will not provide information that identifies your institution to CAPCSD or reference your institution in the survey.

Program directors will receive an email in the fall requesting participation on behalf of their programs.
