In addition to the above volunteers, the CAPCSD Board approved an AI Task Force to start by March 1, 2023. The work of the AI Task Force is to review the current landscape of AI in CSD programs. Consider recent advancements, predictable future effects, and ways educators can use AI positively in classroom and clinical education. Address the following questions:
- What is the state of AI in CSD programs currently?
- What are some predictable uses of AI in education in the immediate future?
- How can educators and supervisors use AI to support the education of students?
- What policies or procedures related to AI and education should CAPCSD members consider?
CAPCSD is looking for four (4) members - two (2) SLPs and two (2) Audiologists for this task force. Applications close for the AI Task Force on January 22, 2023, at 11:59 PM ET.

Committee Highlight - Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)
|
Happy New Year to each of our members and member programs! As VP of Organizational Advancement (VPOA), it is my pleasure to serve as the monitoring officer for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee. This group of experienced colleagues is tasked with providing input on CAPCSD policies, procedures, bylaws, and communication venues to promote equity and inclusion of under-represented groups in CSD. In addition, the committee works to identify evidenced-based resources for member programs to support an inclusive environment for both faculty and students.
In 2023, the DEI Committee began the year by working to build DEI awareness into CAPCSD culture by initiating the inaugural Board and staff training on DEI. The training provided a deep exploration of how to manifest the concept of belonging into the day-to-day working lives of board members, to facilitate positive outcomes for CAPCSD, and to promote inclusion in its member institutions. The Committee also created CAPCSD’s DEIB Resource Hub. This first-of-its-kind repository includes pedagogical frameworks, publications, workshops, webinars, and a listing of established affinity groups. The Hub is a living resource that will be maintained and updated periodically to support programs regarding DEI. One of the final accomplishments of the committee for 2023 was the CAPCSD statement on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging. The statement was developed to affirm CAPCSD’s commitment to fostering a culture that values and embraces diversity, ensures equitable opportunities for all members, and promotes inclusivity and connection. The DEIB statement will serve as a guide to shape CAPCSD’s policies, practices, and culture.
The DEI Committee is chaired by Teresa Girolamo who is supported by Karen Davis, Regina Enwefa, Kyle Greene-Pendelton, Kimberly Green, Leslie Grubler, Molly Krygowski, Jean-Franco Rivera Perez, Kelly Rutherford, and Laura Wolford.
As monitoring officer for the DEI committee, I welcome your suggestions and feedback. Feel free to contact me at VPOA@CAPCSD.org. I would love to hear from you!
