Dear CAPCSD Member.
As we embrace the warmth and energy of summer, I’m truly honored to begin my term as board president and deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve this remarkable community. Summer often brings a sense of renewal and reflection, making it the perfect time to look ahead with both promise and purpose.
I’d like to begin by extending heartfelt thanks to the board members who concluded their service in June: Jennifer Simpson (Past President), Christie Needham (Secretary), Rachel Theodore (Vice President of Admissions), Kevin McNamara (Vice President of Clinical Education), Maya Clark (Vice President of Organizational Advancement), and Shubha Kashinath (Vice President of Research and Academic Affairs). Your time, leadership, and dedication have left a meaningful and lasting impact, and we are sincerely appreciative for all you’ve contributed. At the same time, I’m excited to welcome our incoming board members: Christie Needham (President-Elect), Kelly Rutherford (Secretary), Douglas Parham (VP of Admissions), Andy Clare (VP of Clinical Education), Leslie Crusco-Grubler (VP of Organizational Advancement), and John McCarthy (VP of Research and Academic Affairs). Your fresh perspectives and enthusiasm are already bringing new energy, and I look forward to the work we’ll accomplish together.
We’re also pleased to welcome Teasha McKinley as our new Director of Centralized Admissions. Her experience and leadership will be a valuable addition to our team.
This month’s newsletter highlights a range of upcoming educational opportunities focused on leadership, admissions, and clinical education—each designed to inspire growth, spark collaboration, and support your continued engagement.
This community thrives because of the passion, insight, and involvement of people like you. Whether you’re attending an event, volunteering your time, or simply staying connected, your contributions help shape our shared success. Together, we can build something meaningful, and I’m excited for all the ways we’ll grow, collaborate, and make an impact in the months ahead.

"The Persons" In Person-Centered Cares: Use of Narratives
To help speech-language pathologists understand it is not simply the matter of the "right" or "wrong" words that interfere with culturally responsive services. The way to get to know about fellow members of the interdisciplinary teams and with our clients and their families is best done through narratives spoken in what is a safe and brave environment.
