Dear CAPCSD Member,

As many of us approach spring break and the midpoint of our spring semester, I'm pleased to share several important updates from our recent Board meeting and ongoing initiatives that reflect our commitment to serving our academic programs, profession, and the communities we engage with.

Logo Refinement to Enhance Accessibility

In February, the Board approved a modification to our organizational logo. As you may recall, last year we introduced a new logo designed with an open letter concept to symbolize the open culture of our organization and field. After thoughtful consideration of feedback from some constituents, the Board voted to close the open letters of our logo to enhance readability. This refinement aims to address potential accessibility considerations while maintaining the artistic concept of our original design. I want to emphasize that the logo remains an artistic representation of our organization and will always be accompanied by appropriate alt text to ensure accessibility for all users.

The updated logo is now visible on our website, and you'll also see it featured in this newsletter. However, there are some platforms and materials where implementing the logo change is more complex and will require additional time. We will be systematically updating these materials. We appreciate your patience during this transition period.

Reaffirming CAPCSD’s Commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging

In recognition of the significant challenges in the current national climate, the Board has formally reaffirmed CAPCSD's commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). We understand that creating a sense of belonging—the feeling of acceptance and being part of a community—remains fundamental to our mission.

We acknowledge that many of our member programs now face substantial external pressures and mandates that may affect how DEIB initiatives can be implemented. Some institutions are navigating difficult decisions related to funding and compliance with evolving regulations. CAPCSD will continue to provide resources while recognizing the complex realities many programs must address.

Our DEIB Resources hub remains available on the CAPCSD website for those seeking guidance, and we remain committed to supporting all our member programs as they navigate these challenging times.

AI Task Force Survey

The AI Task Force has been diligently working to understand how artificial intelligence is affecting our field and academic programs. They have recently released a member survey, and I encourage you to participate. Your responses will be invaluable in helping us develop resources and guidance for navigating this new territory together. The survey link is available in this newsletter, and the deadline to complete it is April 1st.

Annual Conference and Honors & Awards

Finally, a reminder that our Annual CAPCSD Conference is approaching quickly. We look forward to gathering in Atlanta this April under the theme "ATL: Advancing Teaching and Learning." Registration details, hotel information, and program information are included in this newsletter.

I'm also pleased to share that this newsletter features our annual Honors and Awards recipients. Please join me in congratulating these outstanding individuals whose contributions to our field exemplify excellence and dedication. We look forward to formally recognizing these recipients at the conference in Atlanta.

With gratitude,

Katie Strong

CAPCSD President

AI in CSD Education Survey

As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to shape the future of healthcare and education, we want to understand how it is being used in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology academic programs. Your input is invaluable!

The Council of Academic Programs in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CAPCSD) invites you to participate in a brief survey on AI integration in our field. Your responses will help us assess current trends, identify opportunities, and guide future initiatives.

Please complete this survey by April 1st.

We will be highlighting some of the results of this research at the CAPCSD conference in April. We hope that you will join us for the discussion.

The Conference Planning Committee is excited to offer two conference options for you.

In person, join us in Atlanta, April 23-26, at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis for the Annual Conference where you can network and learn with over 500 of your colleagues in CSD!

We are excited to announce that we have added a second room block for the Conference. Since the Atlanta Marriott Marquis room block is sold out, we’ve added the Hilton Atlanta.  This hotel is conveniently connected via sky-walk to the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

This year’s Annual Conference will be offering more CEU opportunities than ever before. Additionally, we are adding networking nights on Thursday and Friday that are either role-specific or interest-specific. Register by Friday, March 28 to secure early-bird pricing.

If you have already registered but now want to attend a pre-conference session, it's not too late. Contact Michelle at michelle@capcsd.org to assist with this.

Virtually, join us on Zoom April 24 and 25 for five sessions each day in the Virtual Conference to increase your professional development and earn CEUs.

This option is a convenient way for members to experience CAPCSD conference programming from home. This year’s virtual option features 10 hours of diverse programming that would be appropriate for both professions and all member roles in high education. This is great way to introduce your emerging leaders to CAPCSD.

Clinical Education Resources

Announcing the CAPCSD Clinical Education Resource Repository

We’re excited to introduce the CAPCSD Clinical Education Resource Repository, a new tool designed to support clinical educators and supervisors in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology. This free repository provides easy access to curated, evidence-based resources, including articles, videos, and podcasts all vetted by the CAPCSD Clinical Education Committee.

Organized by key clinical education topics, the repository is designed to help guide best practices, enhance supervisory skills, and support professional growth. Whether you're a seasoned supervisor or new to the role, this resource is a valuable tool for addressing common challenges like providing effective feedback, fostering student success, and preparing for placements.

The repository is openly available on the CAPCSD website (no log-in needed) and can be used for independent learning or group activities like journal clubs and in-service discussions. Explore the resources and find the tools that fit your needs, or share the link with others in your learning community!

Visit webpage to access the repository and learn more. We welcome your feedback and suggestions for future content as we continue to grow this resource!
