Description

Join us for this informational webinar! This presentation will provide an overview of the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), with an emphasis on information for New and Early Stage Investigators (NI/ESI) interested in seeking funding for their research. It will cover general funding opportunities, unique programs promoting NI/ESIs, and the life cycle of NIDCD grant applications—including peer review, tips, and helpful resources—and will afford plenty of time for questions and answers. Speakers: Andrea B. Kelly, Ph.D., earned a B.S. in biology from Cornell University and a M.S. and Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of Southern California. After a postdoctoral position at NIMH and a few years raising small children, she contracted as a science writer and project manager to several NIH’s Institutes and Centers . Since becoming a Scientific Review Officer in 2012, Dr. Kelly has overseen review of grant applications in a number of study sections, including Language and Communication and Communication Disorders Review Committee. Dr. Kelly King is a program officer at NIDCD overseeing a research portfolio that includes hearing aids, cochlear implants, clinical audiology and vestibular science, hearing healthcare access and delivery, and health equity. Prior to serving in this position, Dr. King worked in the intramural program at NIDCD as a research audiologist specializing in genetic forms of hearing loss, ototoxicity, and deep phenotyping of rare disease.
