DISCIPLINE Speech-Language Pathology

POSITION PURPOSE

ON SITE, Residential program position. Responsible for academic, service, and scholarship matters consistent with the mission and philosophy of the MS MED SLP program. Core faculty members participate in university governance and assist the program director in planning, coordinating, facilitating, administering, and monitoring all MS MED Speech-Language Pathology program activities. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Communication 

*Models responsive, timely, effective oral and written communication that is professional, appropriate, and respectful with the students, administration, staff, and faculty 

*Contributes to regularly scheduled program and University meetings

*Collaborates with energetic and dynamic faculty to promote program development  

2. Student Instruction and Curriculum Management 

*Engages in effective classroom instruction, facilitates group discussion

*Uses University technologies and course-related software, including websites, e-mail, and online discussions for preparing the course and making it accessible to students.

*Communicates clear expectations for the course by publishing course terminal objectives assignment/examination dates and weights the distribution of various evaluation categories.

*Ensures that the content and level of material included on exams correspond to the course terminal objectives.

*Uses course design and management principles consistent with best teaching didactic and clinical practices to facilitate effective learning

*Demonstrates fair and consistent scoring practices 

*Provides academic advising and support to students.

3. Preferred Areas of Emphasis

*Flexible with needs in the following areas: speech sound disorders, language development and disorders, neurogenic language/cognitive disorders, research methods, dysphagia. *Other areas of interest will be considered

4. Administrative/Leadership/Scholarship 

*Participates in service opportunities within the university, community, and the profession.

*Accepts opportunities for membership on standing and ad-hoc committees of the program and University as elected or appointed

*Engages in scholarly and research activities as appropriate

*Advances the mission and core values of the university

5.Other Responsibilities 

*Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned

WORKING REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS

Education/Certification:

 PhD, or EdD,  in speech-language pathology or closely related field from an accredited university

Earned ASHA CCC-SLP, eligibility for Utah state license (Speech Language Pathologist)

Experience Required:

Minimum 2 years of speech-language pathology clinical experience

Experience in teaching in higher education

History of scholarly activities

Experience in university service

Member of state/regional/national SLP organizations

Skills/Abilities:

Excellent research skills; positive outlook with a collegial nature; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; attention to detail; and advanced teaching skills; strong written and oral communication abilities, progressive in computer skills and applications for teaching
