The University of Georgia Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor with expertise in Speech-Language Pathology. Priority areas of expertise for this position include acquired cognitive communication disorders; dysphagia; and augmentative and alternative communication for acquired disorders as well as other related medical speech-language pathology expertise. Strong applicants with other areas of expertise in the field of speech-language pathology will also be considered. This is an academic year (9 month) full-time tenure-track position to begin Fall semester 2024.

The Communication Sciences and Disorders program offers a bachelor’s degree, a CAA-accredited master’s degree, and a research doctorate in communication sciences and disorders. The program is part of an interdisciplinary department within a college that includes a range of health, clinical, professional, and educational programs. Responsibilities will include all of the following and other related assignments:  

• Develop and sustain a line of research that contributes to scientific advancement in an area related to communication and/or swallowing                 disorders
• Actively pursue external funding for research
• Teach undergraduate and graduate courses (face-to-face, online, and/or blended)
• Advise students and direct thesis and dissertation research
• Engage in departmental, college, university, and professional service

Required Qualifications include all of the following:  

• An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in speech-language pathology or closely related field (or degree to be awarded before the position's       start date)
• A record of high-quality scholarly publications, such as peer-reviewed journal articles
• A record of obtaining external funding to support research programs, or demonstrable potential
• A record of successful teaching at the university level, or demonstrable potential
• A record of collaborative, professional interactions or service supporting students, the institution, or the discipline

Preferred Qualifications for this position include:

•  Research and teaching expertise in one of the following clinically relevant areas: acquired cognitive communication disorders; dysphagia;                augmentative and alternative communication for acquired disorders
•  Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP)

The appointment will be for the regular 9-month academic year. Additional opportunities for summer employment may be available. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.
