The School of Audiology (SOA) in the College of Health Professions at Pacific University seeks candidates with research experience who are excited to advance audiology education to meet the changing needs of the future. Candidates should complement existing interests in the school and contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The position is an 11-month, tenure-track position. The start date is flexible but August 2024 is preferred. Interprofessional education opportunities abound and are encouraged.
School of Audiology, established in 2012, is housed in the Tuality 7th Avenue Medical Plaza. The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) degree program utilizes an accelerated three-year (121 credits), block-curriculum model. State-of-the-art facilities include multimedia classrooms, simulation, and teaching labs. Collaboration opportunities are plentiful within the University and with the National Center for Rehabilitative Auditory Research (NCRAR) and Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland. Approximately 80 audiology students across three cohorts participate in interprofessional education with other students in the college including Athletic Training, Dental Hygiene, Graduate Psychology, Healthcare Administration and Leadership, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Physician Assistant, and Physical Therapy. Pacific University's Health Professions campus, located in the Hillsboro Health and Education District, is 15 miles west of downtown Portland and easily accessible by public transit.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach in the AuD program, both didactically and clinically
Develop and maintain a line of scholarship that results in dissemination and includes mentoring student scholarship
Support the educational mission and vision of the school, according to the needs of the school
Engage in service to the school, college, university, community, and profession.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Qualified candidates earned a research doctorate (Ph.D., EdD, or equivalent) in audiology, hearing science, or a related field.
Candidates who have completed all requirements of their doctoral program except the dissertation (ABD status) will be considered and should include a letter from their doctoral advisor that includes a date of expected degree completion.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & TRAITS:
Qualified candidates must have:
Earned research doctorate (Ph.D., EdD, or equivalent) in audiology, hearing science, or related field
Commitment to interprofessional health care education and service delivery, in keeping with the mission and vision of the College of Health Professions
Commitment to best practice and lifelong learning in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND TRAITS:
All areas of professional expertise will be considered if supportive of the overall growth of the School of Audiology and its AuD program and clinic. Preferred experience and traits include:
Record of excellence in teaching, preferably at the university level
Record of scholarly work (or strong potential for success in scholarly activities) commensurate with their career stage
Record of mentorship and service to the community/profession
Oregon audiology license; individuals who do not yet hold one but are eligible for an Oregon audiology license will be considered but the license must be acquired before the start date
Clinical supervision experience, preferably at the university level.
ASHA CCC-A and/or ABA Board Certification in Audiology is a plus. The opportunity to provide direct clinical service while also mentoring students is available. Candidates with translational, clinical, and implementation research interests and expertise are especially encouraged to apply.
