ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF EARLY CHILDHOOD LANGUAGE DISORDERS
Position: The University of Illinois Department of Speech and Hearing Science (SHS; http://shs.illinois.edu) invites applications for a nine-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant professor in early childhood language disorders. Preferred research areas include early childhood language development and disorders, early intervention, multiculturalism/cultural-linguistic diversity, implementation science, and technologies to improve outcomes for young children, including augmentative and alternative communication.
Proposed Starting Date: August 16, 2024.
Responsibilities: Successful applicants will conduct and publish research; seek external funding to support research activities; mentor students; teach undergraduate and graduate courses in communication sciences and disorders; advise students in conducting research; participate in professional activities and public engagement; and contribute to the missions of the department, college, and university.
Qualifications: Candidates must hold a doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field by August 16th, 2024, and must have certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Academic Environment: Speech and Hearing Science is a highly collegial and collaborative department, situated in the College of Applied Health Sciences on the main campus of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and includes (a) the recently renovated Speech and Hearing Science building that houses academic, research, and collaborative spaces; (b) the Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology Clinic; and (c) the Collaboration Lab that houses clinical faculty offices, a classroom, multiple study spaces for clinical graduate students, and private spaces for telepractice. Our department offers an undergraduate degree and three graduate degrees—M.A., Au.D., and Ph.D. Its mission is to engage in research, education, and outreach activities that enhance communication across the lifespan, integrating research and clinical applications from the biological, behavioral, and social sciences.
