The Department of Communication Disorders at the State University of New York at New Paltz (SUNY New Paltz) invites applications for a 12-month, tenure-track Director of Clinical Education position beginning preferably in January/spring-semester of 2024. The primary responsibilities are the oversight of the graduate clinical education program, including coordination of speech language clinical education and services in the SUNY New Paltz Speech-Language & Hearing Center and off-site practicum placements. Duties for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Oversee clinical programming, office functions, and facilities in the campus Speech Language & Hearing Center
  • Engage in community outreach and develop clinical initiatives to meet students’ and community needs
  • Collaborate and consult with clinical and academic faculty to foster student clinical learning
  • Oversee administrative functions for on-site speech-language pathology services, including scheduling of evaluations and therapy sessions, maintaining supplies, tests, materials, and facilitating clinical team meetings
  • Coordinate externship placement of students in off-site practica, including maintaining contact with placement supervisors and obtaining and maintaining contracts for clinical affiliations, as needed
  • Teach clinical courses in the department and/or provide direct clinical supervision in select on-site or off-site clinical practicum sections
  • Participate in departmental activities, including clinical coordinator meetings and in departmental/university service committees
  • Work with department chair and graduate coordinator to hire and coordinate part-time clinical faculty
  • Supervise clinic office staff and student workers
  • Related administrative and instructional responsibilities, as needed
Qualifications

Required:

  • An earned master’s degree or doctorate in speech-language pathology
  • ASHA certification in speech-language pathology
  • NYS licensure in SLP and completion of a minimum of two continuing education hours in supervision by the start date
  • Minimum of three years’ clinical experience
  • Clinical supervisory experience
  • Commitment to clinical education that integrates clinical and classroom experiences and focuses on evidence-based practice


Preferred:

  • Strong record of clinical practice
  • Experience in clinical supervision
  • Strong record of classroom and/or clinical teaching
  • Program administration experience
  • Experience in bilingual service provision
