The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the University of Iowa invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position for broad areas of Audiology and Speech/Language Pathology. All qualified candidates will be considered, particularly those with experience in and including (but not limited to) 1) Audiology (i.e., Cochlear Implants and associated areas) or 2) Speech-Language Pathology (i.e., Dysphagia and Adult Language Disorders).


The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the department’s strong record of research accomplishments by establishing and maintaining an active program of research, contribute to our educational mission by teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in their area of expertise, and contribute to the department’s mission to serve the university, the profession, and the community. 

Education Requirement: 

Successful candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related field in hand by the start date. 

Required Qualifications: 

Candidates at the Assistant Professor level must: 

1. have earned a PhD in communication sciences and disorders or a related field by the start of the fall 2024 semester; 

2. demonstrate clear evidence of potential to develop an active and productive research program in the candidate’s area of interest and departmental needs; 

3. demonstrate clear evidence of potential to obtain external funding; 

4. provide evidence that suggests the ability to teach effectively at the college level. 

Candidates at the Associate or Full Professor level must: 

1. demonstrate an active and productive research program in the candidate’s area of interest and departmental needs; 

2. demonstrate an established record of external funding or viable attempts to obtain external funding; 

3. demonstrate a record of effective teaching at the post-secondary level. 

Desired Qualifications: 

Successful applicants for each position may also have one or more of the following attributes: 

1. certification in audiology or speech-language pathology; 

2. eligibility for Iowa licensure; 

3. post-doctoral research experience; 

4. clinical practice experience; 

5. successful attempts at receiving external research funding; 

6. evidence of service and/or leadership in university or professional contexts commensurate with rank; 

7. a demonstrated commitment to working across disciplinary boundaries; 

8. demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic environment.

Additionally, there are many exciting and innovative programs available to CSD faculty, including the Development and Learning from Theory to Application (DeLTA) Center, the multidisciplinary Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), the Iowa Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program, and the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience.

The Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center is a robust training clinic that provides a wide range of services to clients of all ages with a variety of communication differences and disorders. Clinical educators are experts in their area of practice and use best practices in service provision and training of clinical students.

The Doctor of Audiology (AuD) program and the Master of Arts (MA) program in Speech-language Pathology are among the most competitive in the nation and internationally renowned.
