Post-doctoral Fellow
Post-doctoral Fellow
Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan
DISCIPLINE Hearing Science, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering
TYPE Post-doctoral
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wayne State University is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow. A Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Hearing Science, or other relevant fields is required. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Xiying Guan to work on bone-conduction hearing mechanisms. During bone-conduction stimulation, the skull vibration simultaneously stimulates the middle and the inner ear, challenging our ability to understand the underlying mechanisms. We investigate how sound pressures are generated in the cochlea and how the cochlear traveling waves are formed in bone-conduction. We perform intracochlear pressure and vibration measurements in human cadaveric ears. We make finite element model to understand the underlying mechanism. Responsibilities will include:
Prepare human ear specimens and perform experiments to measure sound pressures and vibrations in the inner ear
Develop a finite-element model of the human ear
Analyze the experimental and modeling results
Disseminate the scientific findings on research journals and conferences
Collect preliminary results for the PI’s new research projects
This position offers a substantial and valuable body of fringe benefits, including a choice of medical insurance programs, free and optional low-cost life insurance, short-term disability benefits, and long-term disability benefits (when eligible).
