The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at Northern Arizona University (NAU) invites applications for two positions with an anticipated start date of August 22, 2022:


Assistant/Associate Professor (Vacancy #605863) – This is a 9-month, tenure-track position with a preferred specialization in speech science or motor speech. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, maintaining a productive research program in area(s) of expertise, seeking external funding for research and scholarly activity, participating in clinical teaching activities as applicable, and providing service to the department, college, university, and profession. Minimum qualifications include a research doctorate in speech-language pathology or closely related field (ABD will also be considered), and evidence of potential for excellence in research and teaching. Preferred qualifications include having completed PhD, eligibility for CCC-SLP and Arizona State Licensure, demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded practices in teaching, demonstrated commitment to evidence-based clinical practice, and evidence of research productivity.


Assistant/Associate Professor (Vacancy #605864) This is a 9-month, tenure-track position for candidates with expertise in the area of culturally and linguistically responsive practices in speech-language pathology. In this position, the selected individual will have the unique opportunity to work together with existing faculty to develop the academic and clinical requirements for a newly approved and funded graduate certificate program in culturally and linguistically responsive practices in speech-language pathology. This new program is aligned with our designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution and as a university with a specific commitment to Native Americans. In the first year of the appointment, primary responsibilities will be in the area of curriculum development for this new program. In subsequent years, responsibilities will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in CSD, maintaining a productive research program in area(s) of expertise, seeking external funding for research and scholarly activity, participating in clinical teaching activities as applicable, and providing service to the department, college, university, and profession. Minimum qualifications include a research doctorate in speech-language pathology or closely related field (ABD will also be considered), evidence of potential for excellence in research and teaching, and demonstrated use of evidence-based practice methodologies in the assessment and treatment of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Preferred qualifications include having completed a PhD, eligibility for CCC-SLP and Arizona State Licensure, demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity-minded practices in teaching, demonstrated commitment to evidence-based clinical practice, demonstrated effectiveness in clinical supervision and instruction, and

evidence of research productivity.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) offers a Master of Science in Clinical Speech-Language Pathology through a full-time program and a part-time Summers Track program located on our Flagstaff, AZ Mountain Campus.  We also offer an undergraduate degree preparing students for graduate work in Communication Sciences and Disorders as well as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certificate program. We have a fully-operational clinic that serves clients across the lifespan. CSD excels in its preparation of Speech-Language Pathology clinicians to become leaders in the profession by participating in a unique blend of coursework, clinical experiences, and research. CSD is committed to enriching research, teaching, learning and the professional service environment by embracing the cultural and linguistic diversity of our region and nation. Our department is housed in the College of Health and Human Services, whose mission is to prepare students to become and remain excellent health professionals.
