Assistant/Associate Professor-Audiology

The DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a full-time (12 month), tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor effective May 1, 2021. Applicants with expertise in any area of Audiology and/or Hearing Science are encouraged to apply. 

RESPONSIBILITIES of the position include teaching in the Doctor of Audiology degree program and in the Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences degree program, as well as opportunities for mentorship of students in the Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Sciences and Disorders degree program. Responsibilities also include the development and/or maintenance of significant lines of scholarly research, including conducting, publishing, and presenting peer-reviewed, data-driven research at national and/or international levels. Further, the faculty member appointed to this position will provide service to the Department, College, and University, and will contribute positively to the overall mission and atmosphere of the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include an earned research doctorate (PhD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field from an accredited university, ABD considered. For tenure-track appointment at the Associate Professor level, the candidate must have at least 5 years of experience with teaching, significant record of scholarly publication and presentation at the national and/or international levels, and must have demonstrated service to their profession. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS include eligibility for or current state licensure from the Alabama Board of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology (ABESPA) in Audiology, and eligibility for or current certificate of clinical competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). 

The DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY at the University of South Alabama boasts 17 diverse, internationally recognized academic faculty and clinical faculty members serving students through didactic teaching, clinical practicum, and ongoing research. The Department offers six degree programs: an undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Doctor of Audiology degree, PhD degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders, and two one-year, non-clinical master of rehabilitation sciences degree programs designed for international clinicians who will practice in their home country upon graduation. We offer a competitive salary and an interprofessional setting, including onsite Speech and Hearing Center serving residents of the Greater Gulf Coast community while offering supervised clinical education opportunities for students in the graduate programs. Interprofessional education opportunities for students and opportunities for collaborative research are provided through the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University.
