The DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions at the University of South Alabama invites applications for a full-time (12 month), tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor effective January 1, 2023. Applicants with expertise in any area of Speech-Language Pathology are encouraged to apply, with preference given for applicants with areas of expertise in dysphagia, motor speech disorders, and/or voice disorders.


RESPONSIBILITIES of the position include teaching in the Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology degree program and in the Bachelor of Science in Speech and Hearing Sciences degree program, as well as opportunities for mentorship of students in the Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Sciences and Disorders degree program. Responsibilities also include the development and/or maintenance of significant lines of scholarly research, including conducting, publishing, and presenting peer-reviewed, data-driven research at national and/or international levels. Further, the faculty member appointed to this position will provide service to the Department, College, and University, and will contribute positively to the overall mission and atmosphere of the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS include an earned research doctorate (PhD) in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related field from an accredited university, ABD considered. For tenure-track appointment at the Associate Professor level, the candidate must have at least 5 years of experience with teaching, significant record of scholarly publication and presentation at the national and/or international levels, and must have demonstrated service to their profession.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS include eligibility for or current state licensure from the Alabama Board of Examiners in Speech Pathology and Audiology (ABESPA) in Speech-Language Pathology, and eligibility for or current certificate of clinical competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).


THE DEPARTMENT OF SPEECH PATHOLOGY AND AUDIOLOGY at the University of South Alabama boasts 17 diverse, internationally recognized academic and clinical faculty members serving students through didactic teaching, clinical practica, and ongoing research. The Department offers four degree programs: an undergraduate degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences, Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Doctor of Audiology degree, and PhD degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders.
