The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) https://slhs.phhp.ufl.edu/ at the University of Florida invites applications for an open faculty position at the assistant or associate rank.  This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), tenure-track, 12-month position that is expected to start in Fall of 2022. This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established department conducting innovative research in speech perception and production, reading and reading disabilities, swallowing disorders, neurologically based disorders of communication, and health disparities. 

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a steadfast commitment to excellence in teaching, mentoring, research, and service in a dynamic academic health center environment. The department is committed to hiring and supporting a candidate who will contribute both collaboratively and independently to externally funded research. In addition, the candidate will be expected to teach upper-division undergraduate and graduate level courses that support speech-language pathology.  They will also engage in a range of service activities including student mentorship and participation on departmental and college committees.  


Qualifications: The position requires a PhD in Speech-Language Pathology, Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, or a closely related field. Ideal candidates will have a strong record of conducting speech and language research that complements and enhances the existing department. Candidates should also demonstrate a strong commitment to grant writing and effective teaching and mentoring.  Candidates should have a record of academic accomplishments, independent grant funding, scholarly recognition, teaching excellence, and leadership responsibilities to warrant appointment at the level of associate professor.


UF SLHS:  The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences is one of eight departments in the College of Public Health and Health Professions (PHHP) and is well integrated within the UF Health Science Center, thereby offering faculty a wealth of opportunities for scholarly collaborations.  The department offers three degrees: Doctor of Audiology (AuD), Master of Art’s in Communication Sciences and Disorders (the degree program for speech-language pathology), and Bachelor of Health Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders.  The College of PHHP also offers a PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences, with multiple concentrations including concentration in Communication and Swallowing Sciences and Disorders. The department has state-of-the-art laboratories engaged in multidisciplinary research on speech, reading, voice and swallowing processes. A dedicated experienced research core for grant development and submission and post-grant management supports department research.  Faculty members have access to a college level instructional design team that provides them with expert support in course development and delivery.
