The Old Dominion University Department of Communication Disorders and Special Education invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Communication Sciences and Disorders (10-month tenure track, summer teaching available) to start in Spring or Fall 2023. Job responsibilities encompass teaching, research, and service. Specifically, this position entails teaching communication science disorders courses at the undergraduate and/or graduate level using a variety of course delivery options; engagement in scholarly research and writing; pursuit of external funding; and participating in service activities supporting the University, community, and profession. Candidates with expertise in addressing culturally and linguistically diverse populations, articulation/phonologic disorders, organic speech disorders, pediatric feeding/swallowing, or early intervention are encouraged to apply.

Required Qualifications:  

  • Earned doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline (ABD considered if degree completed by start of employment)
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure in Speech-Language Pathology by the Virginia Department of Health Professions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated, or potential to demonstrate, a record of scholarly research and publication and grant writing
  • Experience teaching at the university level, including teaching diverse groups of students
  • Involvement in service activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Strong verbal, written, and technology skills

The Communication Sciences and Disorders program is currently housed in the Darden College of Education and Professional Studies, whose mission is to prepare distinguished professionals to become leaders in their fields. The program, which offers coursework toward both undergraduate and graduate degrees, has affiliations with the College of Health Sciences, as well as active research and service partnerships with hospitals, clinical agencies, and schools.

Salary:  Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
