The College of Health and Behavioral Studies (CHBS) at James Madison University invites applications for two Associate Dean positions. These positions are open due to recent promotions. Individuals holding these 12-month appointments work in a collaborative team alongside a third Associate Dean and the Dean to advance the mission of the College, its eight academic units and the Institute for Innovation in Health and Human Services. The associate deans will hold a range of responsibilities; specific portfolios will be determined collaboratively according to the successful candidates' strengths and areas of interest.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Associate Deans report to the Dean, lead vital functions for the College, and act in an advisory capacity to the Dean. The Associate Deans serve as members of the College’s leadership team along with the Dean, Associate Deans, and the Academic Unit Heads.

Areas of responsibility for the two Associate Dean positions include: curriculum oversight at the undergraduate and graduate levels; faculty development initiatives; interprofessional education initiatives; diversity and inclusion initiatives; student success (e.g., scholarships, academic actions); oversight of College-wide events; Health and Behavioral Studies building functions and oversight; specialty accreditation consultation; administration of class schedule processes; state reciprocity requirements and compliance needs; and enrollment, recruitment and marketing initiatives. In support of the College, the Associate Deans also represent the Dean and the College on College and University councils and committees as needed, and provide service in other capacities as requested by the Dean and University administration.

Skills and Experience: PhD or other terminal degree required in an area related to the departments/disciplines represented within the academic units of the College: Communication Sciences and Disorders, Kinesiology, Health Professions, Health Sciences, Nursing, Psychology, Graduate Psychology and Social Work. Experience and qualifications appropriate for the rank of Associate or Full Professor. The successful candidates must demonstrate a history of successful leadership that includes a collaborative style and strength in team building. Characteristics of successful candidates include initiative, creativity, organization, attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an openness to new ideas. Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to diversity, access and inclusion, hold high standards for academic excellence, and be committed to student, faculty, and program success. Candidates should understand and be active supporters of interprofessional education and practice, and have a familiarity with accreditation requirements and approval processes. Experience with program assessment in an academic environment and knowledge of current trends and competencies in the field are welcomed.
