The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department at Montclair State University is seeking applicants for a full-time Associate or Full Professor in Audiology, Speech-Language Pathology, Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences who will serve as Department Chair for the first three years of the appointment. Evidence of eligibility for tenure and a record of excellence in teaching, research and service is required. Demonstrated leadership in higher education as well as certification in audiology or speech-language pathology and eligibility for New Jersey license is desired. The members of the department seek to hire an innovative and dynamic person who is committed to the continued development of its academic and clinical programs, its provision of clinical services, its excellence in research and its widespread engagement with the university and community partners. In the role as Department Chair the individual will provide support and mentoring to enrich all stakeholders in the department’s work. The Chair is expected to set the academic, clinical and research priorities of the department, maintain the standards for academic, teaching and research excellence in the department and contribute to the evolution of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences and Montclair State University. The required and desirable characteristics are listed below. The successful candidate will begin in September 2023.


The Communication Sciences & Disorders department is housed approximately two miles from campus in Bloomfield, NJ.  Classrooms (6), research laboratories (6), teaching laboratories (2), a computer laboratory, student lounge and study areas, faculty and staff offices, and the Center for Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology are located in a 40,000 square foot, accessible space with ample parking. The department offers a Doctor of Audiology, Au.D. a Master of Arts, M.A. in Speech-Language Pathology.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is the university's largest academic unit with over 5000 undergraduate, Master’s and doctoral students. CHSS awards BA, MA, and PhD degrees through its 16 departments and 9 programs with over 30 majors and 50 minors.   • A PhD degree with a concentration in audiology, hearing science, speech language pathology, speech language sciences or a very closely related field.

  • A record that would allow the candidate to earn tenure at the rank of Associate/Full Professor at Montclair State University.

  • Evidence of a strong history of service to the discipline.

  • Evidence of knowledge regarding certification and accreditation.

  • Evidence of personnel management skills that allow the department to build a common vision that is culturally sensitive and aware.

  • Experience with fiscal and budget management.

  • Commitment to the development of interdisciplinary collaborations across the University.

  • Commitment to the continued development of interprofessional education and interprofessional practice.

  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and mentor staff and faculty so that they can achieve their personal goals and the goals of the department, college, and university.

  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills that will allow growth and development of the department as it evolves with the college and university.

  • Hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology and eligible to hold a New Jersey state license in Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology.

SALARY RANGE       Commensurate with experience
