POSITION DESCRIPTION: Associate/Full Professor, Tenure Stream, Full-Time (9-month) faculty member and Director of the PhD Program in Communication Science and Disorders in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh.

RESEARCH FOCUS: Pitt SHRS invites applications and nominations for a 9-month faculty position at the Associate/Full Professor Rank. The successful candidate will have expertise in one or more of the following areas: childhood speech and language disorders; autism spectrum disorders; language development; language delay; developmental disabilities; and/or early communication interventions in children. The department is also seeking a dynamic individual with outstanding potential to serve as Director of the PhD Program in Communication Science and Disorders in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an extramurally funded research program in their area of expertise.
Priority will be given to candidates whose scholarship and discovery will contribute to advancing pediatric speech and language disorders. Depending on the expertise of the candidate, secondary appointments may also be offered in other units, centers, and programs at the University of Pittsburgh.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The successful candidate will engage in projects that seek to advance outcomes associated with pediatric speech and language disorders, autism spectrum disorders, language development, language delay, developmental disabilities, and/or early communication interventions.
2. The successful candidate will be expected to lead an extramurally funded research program in their area of research expertise and provide students with access to high quality research training experiences in their laboratory.
3. The successful candidate will leverage collaborative relationships with clinical partners within a vibrant healthcare community that includes the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh (CHP).
4. The successful candidate will demonstrate high potential for academic collaboration and/or a strong motivation for such collaboration and building and maintaining excellence in scholarly research and teaching in a research-intensive department, school, and university.
5. The successful candidate will provide visionary leadership and administration of the PhD Program in Communication Science and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh as Director of the PhD Program and participate in departmental, school, university, and professional service.
COLLABORATION EXPECTATIONS: The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain school, university, and community collaborations with UPMC and CHP to advance research and clinical outcomes in their area of scholarship, locally, regionally, and nationally. It is expected that these collaborations will include speech-language pathologists, physicians, occupational therapists, rehabilitation science and technology engineers, and other health services researchers. The tenure home will be in the Department of Communication Science and Disorders. Competitive candidates may also be offered secondary appointments in other collaborating units.
QUALIFICATIONS: A doctoral degree in Communication Science and Disorders and/or related fields with demonstrated expertise in specified subject areas.
While no candidate will embody every quality, the successful candidate will demonstrate many of the following professional and personal qualifications:
1. Evidence of collaboration and successful partnerships in pediatric speech & language disorders.
2. Evidence of research and scholarship and the potential to secure extramural funding.
3. Experience with pre-doctoral and post-doctoral training.
4. Ability to mentor students to achieve personal, departmental, school and university goals.
5. Familiarity with and experience with diverse types of funding sources, including federal and non-federal sources, private foundations, industry, training grants, and private public partnerships.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Communication Science and Disorders (CSD) is one of seven departments in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. The department currently has 25 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) faculty including 10 full professors, 4 associate professors, 10 assistant professors, and 1 research assistant professor. The faculty are engaged in local, state-wide, national, and international collaborations and have a formidable reputation for the areas of expertise to which they contribute through research, teaching and professional service. CSD is the largest department in SHRS (School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences) (School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences), enrolling over 264 students across 5-degree programs, including an undergraduate (BA) degree in communication science, doctor of audiology (AuD), Master of Arts or Master of Science in speech-language pathology (MA/MS-SLP), clinical science doctorate (CScD) in speech language pathology, and research doctorate in communication science and disorders (PhD).
