Position

The Doctor of Audiology Program of the Department of Communication Disorders at California State University, Los Angeles invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Audiology. We are interested in candidates with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Amplification and Audiologic Rehabilitation; Audiology Across the Lifespan; Balance System and Vestibular Assessment; Medical Aspects of Audiology, or other relevant area represented in the Cal State LA AuD curriculum. The successful candidate for this position will be expected to teach undergraduate and doctoral courses in areas of expertise and to supervise audiology doctoral investigative projects. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical education in the Cal State LA Hearing and Balance Clinic.


Minimum Qualifications

1) Evidence of expertise in one or more of the following areas: Amplification and Audiologic Rehabilitation; Audiology Across the Lifespan; Balance System and Vestibular Assessment; Medical Aspects of Audiology, or other relevant area represented in the Cal State LA Doctor of Audiology (AuD) curriculum.

2) An earned doctorate (Ph.D., Au.D., or equivalent) from an accredited institution in audiology, hearing and speech science, or closely related field is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by the date of appointment (8/18/2022).

3) Possession of, or immediate eligibility to attain and hold, California licensure both in audiology and hearing aid dispensing.

4) Evidence of expertise or potential for: academic administration, curriculum management, and program development in the Cal State LA Doctor of Audiology program.

5) Evidence of scholarly achievement (for example, academic or professional presentations, publications in refereed journals, publication of textbooks) in Audiology or closely related area; and

6) Ability to demonstrate a commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students in a multicultural/multiethnic urban campus environment with a substantial population of first-generation students.


Preferred Qualifications

1) Experience with teaching doctoral level students in Audiology.

2) Evidence of successful and independent teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level utilizing a face-to-face classroom format and/or on-line teaching format.

3) Expertise in the use of platforms for instructional technology.

4) Evidence of leadership and relevant administrative experience.

5) Possession, nearing completion, or eligibility for national certification in Audiology (either American Board of Audiology Certified or CCC-A) and

6) Possession of other related professional certifications.

About the AuD Program at Cal State LA

The Doctor of Audiology program was awarded a classification of “Developing Status” by the Accreditation Commission for Audiology Education (ACAE) in October 2017 and will graduate its first cohort of Doctors of Audiology in August 2022. The AuD Program is currently under review by ACAE for full accreditation.


The AuD Program is located off-campus in a newly renovated 12,000 sq ft space in the adjacent city of Alhambra, CA. It is a completely modern facility with four sound suites, an extensive array of hearing and balance assessment equipment, a classroom, conference room, and faculty offices.
