Chair, Department of Speech-Language Pathology, Jefferson College of Rehabilitation Sciences
The Department of Speech-Language Pathology at Thomas Jefferson University invites applications for the position of Chair. Ours is a developing program that plans to matriculate its first class in the Fall of 2020 on the Center City Philadelphia campus. The program will offer the degree of Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology, and the curriculum will incorporate the academic, clinical, and research experiences necessary to prepare students for entry-level practice as speech-language pathologists and/or future doctoral work.
The Department of Speech-Language Pathology will be an integral part of the Jefferson College of Rehabilitation Sciences (JCRS), which also includes the departments of Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Athletic Training. All programs feature state-of-the-art classrooms and teaching laboratories, a simulation center, as well as research laboratory space. The programs within JCRS reflect the University’s commitment to educate future healthcare professionals of the highest quality and ethical standards for contemporary practice in the global community. The Chair will be responsible for all aspects of academic leadership and administration within the department of Speech-Language Pathology, including: strategically positioning the program for candidacy accreditation status; providing mentorship and faculty development; monitoring and evaluating the curriculum; creating and evaluating program assessment measures; and participating in interprofessional innovations in education, scholarship/research and clinical practice within the Jefferson College of Rehabilitation Sciences. The Chair will also participate in establishing interprofessional innovations in education, scholarship/research and clinical practice within JCRS.
The position is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track appointment beginning September 1, 2019. Salary and rank are commensurate with experience. A doctoral degree in Speech-Language Pathology or a related field are required. Current ASHA certification and eligibility for licensure as a speech-language pathologist in Pennsylvania are desirable. The successful applicant should have a minimum of 5 years full-time college/university experience with knowledge of accreditation standards and their implementation; a record of active scholarship in his or her research specialty; strong written and oral communication skills; a record of excellence in teaching; evidence of relevant administrative experience and managerial skills; and evidence of service.
