The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Purdue University Fort Wayne seeks applications for a full-time, 9-month position at the rank of Clinical Assistant Professor. This person will also serve as the Clinic Director for the department’s Communication Disorders Clinic. The start date is August 17, 2020. The department offers a B.S. degree in CSD and anticipates offering an M.S. in SLP beginning in Fall 2020. The proposed graduate program in speech-language pathology is currently under review. The department also offers an undergraduate certificate in gerontology. Fort Wayne is the second largest city in Indiana, has a low cost of living, and offers a wide variety of community festivals, shopping, restaurants, and cultural activities as well as an extensive health care system.

Required qualifications include:

  • Master’s degree or higher in speech-language pathology
  • CCC-SLP and Indiana state SLP license or the ability to obtain state licensure prior to the start date
  • Meets all ASHA requirements for serving as a clinical supervisor
  • Minimum of 5 years working as a speech-language pathologist
  • Employment is contingent on available funding and a satisfactory background records check.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supervising undergraduate and graduate students in on and off-campus clinical practica.
  • Serving as Clinic Director for the on-campus Communication Disorders Clinic and coordinating off site clinical placements.
  • Teaching departmental courses in area of clinical expertise. Potential courses could include one or more of the following: clinical methods in speech-language pathology, school based speech-language pathology, and medical speech-language pathology. The combination of clinical supervision and teaching classroom based courses will constitute a full teaching load with the exact number of courses taught each semester dependent on faculty expertise and departmental need.
  • Contributing to departmental and university service.
