A unique opportunity exists for a candidate who would like to work in a collaborative relationship between the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (COMD) and School of Medicine (SOM) at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. The position is to be assigned 51% to COMD and 49% to the SOM. Within COMD, the candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate classes in audiology and provide clinical supervision in audiology to speech-language pathology students. For the SOM, the candidate will provide audiology clinical services as assigned by a faculty otolaryngologist. The successful Clinical Assistant Professor will commence duties beginning Fall 2019. Other assigned duties may include academic advisement, developing audiology practicum policies and procedures in collaboration with COMD faculty, participating in collection of program assessment data, and engaging in professional and university service. Minimum qualifications include an earned clinical doctorate (Au.D.) in audiology, the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-A) and eligibility for Texas licensure in audiology. Preferred qualifications include (1) teaching and clinical supervision experience at the university level as well as the ability to use technology to support teaching and learning, (2) experience working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, and (3) affiliation agreement execution and community relations/engagement experience. Salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. Review of candidates begins immediately and the position will remain open until filled.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in general classroom and clinical environments. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
