This is a full-time, 9-month, clinical assistant professor position to begin August 2022.


Position Summary:   The Department of Health and Human Performance is seeking qualified applicants for a Clinical Assistant Professor faculty position. The Department seeks candidates who are committed to student learning and excellence in clinical education. Primary duties include overseeing day-to-day operations of the APSU Speech-Language and Swallowing Community Clinic to provide excellence in clinical education to undergraduate and graduate students and provide quality clinical services to individuals with communication and swallowing disorders. The Clinical Assistant Professor will oversee clinical assignments and clinical affiliation agreements to ensure APSU student clinicians are provided a variety of supervised clinical education experiences. The position will also provide opportunities for teaching and advising students in the Communication Sciences and Disorders Concentration. The successful candidate will show evidence of clinical expertise and interest in interprofessional education and engagement in service. Administrative responsibilities will be required in the summer. This is non-tenure track three year renewable contract.


Typical Duties and Responsibilities: The primary responsibility is to serve as a clinical education coordinator (CEC) to oversee the clinical education components of the graduate and undergraduate programs. The CEC will collaborate with the Program Director to ensure compliance with accreditation standards and professional certification requirements. This would include documenting each student’s progress toward required clinical competencies and clinical experience hours across settings and disorders. Also responsible for directing the APSU Speech-Language and Swallowing Community Clinic including caseload management, compliance and development of policies and procedures, establishing community partners for service delivery, and support program endeavors to promote best practices in clinical education and advancement of the program mission. Advising students and holding required office hours is expected.  


Required Qualifications:  Master’s degree in speech-language pathology or clinical doctorate with demonstrated clinical expertise. A minimum of three years work experience as a speech-language pathologist at the time of August start date. At the time of hire, must possess a current Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Eligibility for TN state license is also required at the time of hire.


About the DepartmentThe Department of Health & Human Performance is housed in the College of Behavioral and Health Sciences.  The department serves approximately 600 undergraduate and 70 graduate students. The undergraduate program has two majors:  Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Performance (B.S. in HHP) and Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology (B.S. in Kines). The B.S. in HHP offers five concentrations: Communication Sciences & Disorders, Healthcare Management, K-12 Teaching, Public Health, and Sport and Wellness Specialist. The B.S. in Kines offers two concentrations: Exercise Science and Pre-Professional. The department also offers three graduate degrees: Master of Science in Health and Human Performance, Master of HealthCare Administration (MHA) and Master of Speech-Language Pathology (MSLP) The MSLP is approved to launch Fall 2022 contingent on award of Candidacy. The Master of Science in Health and Human Performance has two concentrations:  Performance Enhancement and Coaching, and Public Health Education.
