JOB DESCRIPTION

The faculty member in this position provides clinical education and supervision to undergraduate and graduate students in the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology. Position responsibilities include providing clinical services to adult and pediatric populations in all areas of speech pathology; evaluating students according to ASHA guidelines and competencies; limited classroom teaching; and providing service to the department, college, and university.


EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Supervise and instruct MS SLP students during clinical experiences and ensure excellence in clinical education

● Determine clinical direction and provide feedback of students’ clinical performance and clinical skill development

● Provide billable client services in the on-campus USA Speech and Hearing Center, and complete required medical documentation/reports and billing

● Meet with and mentor students, and contribute to student-friendly, collegial atmosphere within the Department

● Limited didactic teaching within the classroom for undergraduate and graduate courses

● Maintain compliance with ASHA certification requirements


MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATION

Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology, CScD, or Ph.D. in Communication Sciences from an accredited university; eligibility for Alabama state licensure and Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.


PREFERRED SKILLS AND QUALITIES

These skills and qualities are not required, but preferred:

● Minimum of 3 years of career experience as a speech-language pathologist, with varied clinical populations and ages

● Experience with clinical supervision and clinical education of students or colleagues

● Experience with telehealth service provision

● Clinical specialty with any of the following populations is desired: school-age language, autism spectrum disorders, fluency, AAC, voice, language assessment and intervention with multi-lingual (ESL) populations

● Commitment to lifelong learning

● Dependable team player able to provide consistent performance

Through the USA Speech and Hearing Center and USA Health, we provide comprehensive evaluations and therapeutic services for adults and children within the greater Mobile area and surrounding communities. The Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology boasts 17 diverse, internationally recognized academic and clinical faculty members serving students through didactic teaching, clinical practicum, and ongoing research.
