Coordinator of Clinical Education- Speech Language Pathology (22-76) 

 Francis Marion University and the Department of Speech-Language Pathology invite applications for a full-time Coordinator of Clinical Education.  The successful candidate will provide leadership to Clinical Educators; grow the depth and variety of on-campus clinic patient caseload, while also serving as a Clinical Educator.  They will also be responsible for bridging classroom knowledge and evidence-based practice with on/off-campus clinical experiences for students, and securing a variety of external clinical practicum sites, as well as teaching the associated clinical practicum courses.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  • Provide instruction for current best practices for speech-language pathology services.
  • Assign Student Clinicians to Clinical Educators.
  • Observe and provide guidance for clinical activities of Student Clinicians/Clinical Educators, including providing guidance for developing diagnostic and intervention plans, and reviewing Student Clinician evaluations, Plan of Cares (POC), lesson plans, SOAP Notes, and discharge summaries.
  • Assign Student Clinicians to diagnostic groups; peer-to-peer screens; observe/review diagnostic, screening, and intervention sessions; and provide feedback to Student Clinicians.
  • Monitor student interactions with Clinic Patients and Caregivers.
  • Provide formative and summative evaluations for Student Clinicians.
  • Serve as administrator for the Electronic Health Records system.
  • Serve as administrator for CALIPSO and maintain accuracy of all student files, external practicum site files, as well as Clinical Educators/Clinical Supervisor files.
  • Input and approve Student Clinician clock hours in CALIPSO.
  • Document and track Student Clinician clinical competencies in CALIPSO.
  • Maintain Student Clinician files in compliance with FERPA.
  • Maintain Clinic Patient files in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Update Clinic Handbook as needed.
  • Schedule/lead meetings with Clinical Educators regarding Student Clinician progress and merging evidence-based practice (EBP) and academic coursework.
  • Participate in weekly meetings with academic faculty regarding student progress and merging EBP and academic coursework into clinical experiences.
  • Secure a variety of external sites for off-campus practicums and maintain current Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with each facility.
  • Participate in external site visits and maintain proof-of-visit forms in CALIPSO.
  • Assign Student Clinicians to external practicum sites to align with skill level, clinical clock-hour needs, academic skill set, and professional desires.
  • Conduct clinic advising meetings with each student once a semester to shape and guide future clinical practicum experiences.
  • Teach Clinical Practicum courses.


  • Earned Masters in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Advanced knowledge in computer documentation
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Knowledge regarding FERPA and HIPAA
  • Four years of experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Current ASHA Certification
  • Current South Carolina Speech-Language Pathology license
  • Completed ASHA Requirements for Supervision and Ethics

Formal Accountability:  Reports to the Chair of the Speech-Language Pathology Department.
