DISCIPLINE Speech/Hearing Science TYPE Program Director/Chair

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) at the University of Iowa invites applications for the position of Department Chair.  


The successful candidate will be an experienced, innovative, visionary individual with a strong record of scholarship and leadership who is committed to the research, clinical, and teaching missions of the Department. Applicants must have a PhD or equivalent degree and possess credentials commensurate with the rank of tenured full professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders or be eligible for promotion to the rank of tenured full professor within a short period of time.  Applicants must have expertise in at least one of the following: speech/swallowing/language/voice science and/or disorders, and have a successful program of publication in their area of study. 


The clinical graduate programs in speech/language pathology and audiology at the University of Iowa are ranked #1 and 2 in the nation. The Speech and Hearing Clinic at the Wendell Johnson Speech and Hearing Center is a robust training clinic that provides a wide range of services to clients of all ages.  We have a strong doctoral program and the possibilities for collaboration across departments and colleges are numerous.  For example, CSD faculty members actively collaborate with individuals from the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery within the College of Medicine, the College of Public Health and the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences. Additionally, there are many exciting and innovative programs available to faculty from CSD, including the Development and Learning from Theory to Application (DeLTA) Center, the multidisciplinary Center for Disabilities and Development (CDD), and the Iowa Early Hearing Detection and Intervention (EHDI) program.


Education Requirement:  Successful candidates are required to have a PhD in communication sciences and disorders or a related field in hand by the start date.


Required Qualifications: 1) prior experience in program administration and development; 2) a strong program of published research and external funding; 3) possess credentials commensurate with the rank of tenured full professor in the Department of Communications Sciences and Disorders or be eligible for promotion to the rank of tenured full professor within a short period of time; 4) successful candidates must have expertise in one of the following: speech/swallowing/language/voice science and/or disorders; 5) demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment.


Desired Qualifications: 1) record of effective teaching at the college level; 2) demonstrated commitment to working across disciplinary boundaries.
