The University of Missouri – Columbia (MU), invites nominations and applications for the Department Chair of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, within the School of Health Professions. The Department seeks an outstanding collaborator, educator, and researcher with demonstrated leadership to further advance excellence in the areas of teaching, training, research, and service.
The mission of the MU Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences is to offer outstanding educational and research programs in the areas of language, speech, and hearing and in the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders. The department prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion in its programs, curriculum, and clinical activities as it strives to prepare professionals who are culturally aware and culturally responsive. Composed of a close-knit talented faculty, this department seeks chair candidates ready to lead and work with the Dean’s office and campus to advance their growth and departmental initiatives—the ideal candidate will bring energy, creativity, leadership experience, and innovation with a steadfast commitment to departmental mission and goals.
- Serve as a leader, role model, and advocate for the Department to achieve the highest possible level of excellence in teaching, research, and service
- Develop a shared growth vision and strategy that aligns stakeholders’ strengths and direction, strategic faculty hires and programmatic enhancement by actively engaging faculty, staff, and School leadership
- Strengthen existing campus and community partnerships, as well as develop new relationships and partners
- Recruit and retain diverse Tenure Track and Non-Tenure Track faculty with track records of excellence in teaching and research
- Work collaboratively with clinic director, clinical and academic faculty to maintain ASHA accreditation standards
- Manage the day-to-day operations, including personnel and resource management
Doctorate in applicable research field
Academic accomplishments that merit an appointment at the rank of an Associate Professor or Full Professor
- Strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and equal opportunity in all activities
- Experience with fiscal and budget management
- Evidence of academic leadership is highly desired
We anticipate the appointment will be made for the Fall of 2022 with a targeted January 2023 start. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
