Summary of Job Duties:

The Department Head of Communication Disorders and Occupational Therapy leads the daily operations of the department, promotes excellence, and builds and maintains collaborative relationships among faculty and staff. Specific duties and responsibilities of the Department Head include but are not limited to: 1) providing intellectual and administrative leadership of the faculty, staff, and students in teaching, research, and service; 2) managing and coordinating the department’s human and fiscal resources; 3) advancing the department’s mission and goals; 4) serving as a liaison for the department to the college and university; and 5) establishing and promoting relationships with clinical partners, state and federal agencies, and other key stakeholders.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders, Occupational Therapy, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education

  • Rank of tenured associate professor or higher at an accredited institution of higher education

  • Record of research, teaching, and service consistent with the criteria for an appointment of a tenured associate professor or higher at the University of Arkansas

  • Proven leadership and administrative skills

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion

  • Demonstrated commitment to clinical education

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Rank of tenured full professor at an accredited institution of higher education

  • Record of research, teaching, and service consistent with the criteria for an appointment of a tenured full professor at the University of Arkansas

  • Experience managing budget and personnel

  • Experience mentoring faculty in research, teaching, and service

  • Experience securing and successfully administering external funding

  • Demonstrated effective academic leadership experience in higher education

  • Occupational therapy or speech-language-hearing clinical experience

  • Strong commitment to quality undergraduate and graduate education

  • Experience with national accreditation agencies/organizations

  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
