Director of Clinical Education in Speech-Language Pathology

Widener University is applying for Candidacy Accreditation in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) by the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA).  If Candidacy Accreditation is approved, the program intends to admit its first cohort in Summer, 2021.  The program is actively seeking a Director of Clinical Education to oversee the clinical education portion of the program. This role reports to the Program Director of the Speech-Language Pathology Program in the School of Human Service Professions.

Position Summary:

The Director of Clinical Education (DCE) in Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) oversees all aspects of the clinical education portion of the Master of Science in SLP. This position is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure track position with an administrative role in the program. Responsibilities include oversight of the SLP students’ participation in the interprofessional pro bono Chester Community Clinic; development and maintenance of external contracts for clinical externship sites; management of student externship assignments; and completion of externship visits. The DCE assists the Program Director in managing adjunct clinical faculty who supervise students in the Chester Community Clinic and ensures that the clinical portion of the program is in compliance with all accreditation standards.  Responsibilities also include teaching clinical and didactic courses; service to the university, community, and the profession; and other duties assigned by the Program Director. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • A master’s degree in speech-language pathology from an accredited college or university. 
  • Certification as a Speech-Language Pathologist by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CCC-SLP).
  • Licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, or eligibility to apply, as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience in speech-language pathology; 7 or more years preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years teaching and/or clinical supervision; 5 or more years preferred. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to individuals who have experience teaching and providing clinical supervision to SLP master’s students in an academic setting.
  • Experience with CAA accreditation.
