Gallaudet University Hearing and Speech Center (GUHSC) is a state-of-the-science university training facility that serves Gallaudet University students, faculty and staff as well as individuals from the Greater Washington area. As a teaching and research institution, our experienced clinical staff is committed to lifelong learning. All maintain professional certification through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and licensure through the DC Department of Health. With the help of the administrative staff, the Center is committed to providing quality services to its clients.


General Information: The Director of GUHSC is a staff faculty position who is responsible for overseeing clinical operations of the GUHSC. Working with both clinical staff and academic faculty, this individual ensures that the clinic services address the needs of its clients, while also meeting the training needs of its students. In addition, the Director also has fiduciary responsibility for the center, which entails working closely with the Manager of Clinical Operations.

 

Qualifications: Master’s or Doctoral degree in Hearing-Speech-Language Sciences, Audiology or Speech-Language Pathology, and a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in audiology or speech-language pathology, or credentials to apply for and obtain certification or license in either field. The Director of GUHSC must also have a minimum five years of direct service provision in either speech-language pathology or audiology, and has experience in organizational leadership in a practice that includes the provision of audiology or speech-language services and performance evaluations. In addition, we are looking for a candidate who (a) has experience in inter-professional practice (IPP) and IPP collaboration; (b) is knowledgeable and supportive of cultural-linguistic diversity (CLD) competence requirements; and (c) has the ability to work in a team environment. Experience in the fiscal management of a speech and/or hearing clinic is an asset.


As Gallaudet is a bilingual university, competence in American Sign Language and knowledge of Deaf culture are necessary. Applicants without ASL skills must demonstrate a commitment to learning ASL and will receive institutional support needed for ASL development.
