Job Description

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Department Chair, the Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Clinical Supervisor has a direct role in the clinical education of SLP master’s students as they complete their three semesters of clinical practicum (CSND 535, 562, and 599) in the MSU Center for Audiology & Speech-Language Pathology. This position  provides direct clinical supervision of students treating and diagnosing clients in the clinic, as well as weekly clinical seminars for the students to further review cases and/or additional topics of clinical significance. The Clinical Supervisor oversees both individual and group therapy sessions, provides ongoing support to clients and families; and works closely with the SLP Clinic Director, the SLP Clinical Externship Coordinator, and other SLP clinic staff to provide a cohesive and comprehensive training program for the students.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Supervise first and second year graduate students during their on-campus practica. 

  • Oversee a caseload consisting of both pediatric and adult clients, presenting with a wide range of communication disorders.

  • Instruct students regarding clinical practica, methodology, and protocols related to both assessment and intervention. Provide individual instruction to practicum students and  ongoing availability for additional clinical supervision and guidance as needed.

  • Review and revise written reports including contact logs, SOAP notes, diagnostic reports and end of semester progress reports.

  • Conduct weekly seminars to discuss client-related issues, current trends and topics within the field of speech-language pathology, and issues of professional development.

  • Complete midterm and final evaluation of students based upon their clinical performance.

  • Participate in department clinic committee meetings and serve on other committees as needed.

  • Conduct meetings in cooperation with the clinic director reviewing students’ responsibilities and professional conduct expected in clinic and off campus externships.

  • Provide orientation and training for adjunct clinical supervisors at the start of each semester.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.


QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:  

  • A master’s degree in speech-language pathology.

  • A minimum of five years of professional experience as a speech-language pathologist, including experience in the supervision of students.

  • Applicants must hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the Council for Clinical Certification of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

  • Applicants must hold or be eligible for a New Jersey License in Speech-Language Pathology. 


PREFERRED

  • Experience treating clients across the lifespan with a wide range of diagnoses and disorders.

  • Familiarity with national standards for clinical certification and academic program accreditation.

  • Experience working at a university as a clinical supervisor of SLP graduate students.
