The Vocal Control and Vocal Well-Being Lab in the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences in the School of Health Professions at the University of Missouri (https://healthprofessions.missouri.edu/speech-language-and-hearing-sciences/) has an opening for a two-year postdoctoral fellow with immediate start data. The position is open to international applicants.

Setting: The University of Missouri is an AAU, Carnegie RU/VH Research University located in Columbia, a midā€size city consistently ranked high in surveys of livability.

Primary Activities: The postdoctoral fellow will work on the NIDCD-funded R01 project “Neurobiological and psychobiological signatures of vocal effort in early career teachers.” This innovative project will determine neural (fMRI), psychobiological (salivary cortisol, personality), and vocal function (sEMG, acoustic) signatures of stress responders and nonresponders in early career teachers with vocal fatigue and controls. The candidate will contribute to all stages of research in the lab. Primary responsibilities will include the guided set-up of an fMRI protocol with voice/speech and stress reactivity components and fMRI data collection and analysis. The fellow will be trained in the responsible conduct of research, in methods related to the project, and will attend fMRI analysis trainings. In addition, fellows will train, supervise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate research assistants. The candidate will become involved in manuscript and grant preparation, present data nationally and internationally, and will be able to develop and conduct their own programmatic research.

Qualifications: Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences with an emphasis in voice/speech or Affective Neuroscience, Health Psychology or a related field. Prior experience in neuroscience and neuroimaging is desirable but any candidate who is committed to learning brain imaging techniques and analyses to participate in affective and rehabilitation neuroscience with an emphasis on voice and speech control will be considered.

Salary & Benefits: Salary is commensurate with the NIH pay schedule plus benefits.
