Professor and Director, School of Communication Sciences & Disorders
The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for a 12-month, tenured position at the full professor rank to serve as school director, beginning late summer or fall of 2020.
The school seeks an innovative, energetic, visionary leader who has the capacity to leverage the large size and existing strengths of the school to create a meaningful impact on the college, university, and community. The selected candidate will lead the school through exciting changes as UCF strengthens interprofessional programming on the main campus in Orlando and the Academic Health Sciences campus at Lake Nona.
The School of Communication Sciences and Disorders was founded in 1969 and was first accredited in 1987. It has a strong history of excellence in teaching, research, and community service. The school includes 30 full-time faculty members serving an average of 200 graduate and 700 undergraduate students. It offers bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communication sciences and disorders. A proposal for a college-level PhD program in rehabilitation sciences is currently under development. The Master of Arts program boasts numerous internal and external affiliations, including Nemours Children’s Hospital, the Center for Autism and Related Disabilities (CARD), ten public school systems, and the UCF College of Community Innovation and Education. The Communication Disorders Clinic serves as the centerpiece for clinical education and applied research. This 13,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility houses several specialty services, including audiology, the Aphasia House, the UCF Listening Center, the Center for Upper Aerodigestive Functions, the Fluency Disorders Clinic, the Voice Care Center, and the Florida Alliance for Assistive Services and Technology (FAAST) Center, which provides assistive technology services in ten Florida counties for individuals across the spectrum of age and disability.

The successful candidate will provide academic and administrative leadership (i.e., management of human resources, budget, academic and clinical programming, and fundraising) and will facilitate intra- and inter- school collaborations to enhance the impact of scholarship, teaching, and service. Furthermore, the candidate will support and mentor faculty to secure external funding, promote a collegial and collaborative environment, and be able to facilitate meaningful growth to fill the healthcare needs of the community.
Position Minimum Qualifications:
A research doctoral degree in communication sciences and disorders or related discipline from an accredited institution; an outstanding record of teaching, research, and scholarly achievements commensurate with a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of full professor; and demonstration of significant and successful administrative leadership and/or mentoring experience in a university setting.
The ideal candidate should be a proven leader with the ability to oversee diverse academic and clinical programs; have experience overseeing complex budgets and accreditation processes; be an effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills; demonstrate a history of externally funded research; have experience with interdisciplinary initiatives and clinical programming; provide evidence of a commitment to fostering diversity; and possess the ability to support future growth and expansion of the school.
The selected candidate should have the necessary academic experience to be a committed and effective mentor to the faculty and staff within the school’s current and future programs. The ideal candidate will have the ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with university administrators, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as create partnerships both within and outside the college and university.
