Position Description (responsibilities/duties)

The Department of Communication Disorders at Texas State University invites applications for an open-rank faculty position at the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor to begin Fall 2023. This is a full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position with the possibility of summer teaching.

Responsibilities include establishing /continuing a nationally recognized line of research in area of specialty; seeking extramural funding to support research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and providing service at the department, college, and university levels. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.


Qualifications

Required: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders or in related areas; however, ABD candidates will be considered but must have degree completion by appointment date. Candidates must have ASHA certification (CCC-SLP), and eligibility for clinical licensure in Texas. We are seeking candidates with research interests in the following areas: neurogenic communication disorders, dysphagia, or voice disorders. The eligible candidate will receive the appropriate rank based on university and school standards.

Preferred: In addition to teaching experience, candidates with a record of peer-reviewed publications and other scholarly products, and who have applied for extramural funding are preferred. Candidates with a research plan identifying future manuscripts and possible sources of funding (e.g., private foundations, federal) are preferred.


The Environment

The Department of Communication Disorders includes a highly collegial and intellectually vibrant faculty of research scientists and clinical educators that values diversity. Texas State University holds a Carnegie classification of Doctoral University-High Research Activity and is a public Hispanic-Serving Institution. Accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation, the department offers a Master of Science/Master of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science in Communication Disorders.   In the fall of 2022, the department included 18 faculty and staff serving 150 students.

Texas State Round Rock campus is centrally located in the healthcare nexus of our region, enabling Texas State to offer expanded collaborative opportunities with area healthcare facilities. The Department of Communication Disorders is housed in the newly built Willow Hall. Willow Hall is equipped with a state-of-the-art Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic, which features 25 therapy rooms, two audiology booths, conference and lab spaces, an electrophysiology lab, and a large faculty lounge shared with the Physical Therapy Department and Respiratory Care Department.
