Position Summary

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders (https://comdis.msu.edu) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks to fill a faculty position for a Fall 2020 start with an individual committed to developing an outstanding program of research and demonstrating excellence in teaching and service. The ideal candidate will be an energetic educator and scholar who is excited to join a dynamic department and work with similarly dedicated scientists in a collaborative and inclusive environment. The listed position is in the tenure system at the Assistant Professor rank; however, exceptional candidates will be considered at higher ranks.

The Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders has grown dramatically in recent years, with ten active research laboratories and five endowments to support student and faculty development. The Department’s thriving undergraduate minor, MA, and PhD programs prepare students for successful clinical and research careers in speech-language pathology and related fields. The Department is housed within MSU’s world-renowned College of Communication Arts and Sciences. The College provides excellent infrastructure for pre-award extramural grant submission, post-award grant administration, and information technology support for research and teaching.

Minimum Requirements

PhD degree in communicative sciences and disorders, or a closely related discipline is required. Postdoctoral training or equivalent and the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) are strongly suggested but not required for this position.


Desired Qualifications

Desired areas of expertise include developmental or acquired language disorders, with a focus on cognitive/neurogenic aspects of communication and/or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). Other areas will also be considered for outstanding candidates. Candidates should have demonstrated success, or the strong promise of success, in obtaining external funding for their research, scholarly productivity, as well as the potential for multidisciplinary collaboration.
