Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders | School of Communication

Emerson College, Boston, MA

Emerson College, the nation’s only four-year institution dedicated exclusively to majors in communication and the arts, is committed to an active, intentional, and ongoing engagement with diversity—in people, curriculum, and the college’s intellectual and geographic communities.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at Emerson College seeks to fill a nine-month, full-time, renewable, non-tenure track teaching position (“term faculty”). This position entails a teaching load that may include graduate, undergraduate, on-campus and/or online courses, which are offered year-round. This position also entails a leadership role in graduate admissions. In particular, we seek candidates who will offer an informed approach to increasing and sustaining diversity in the graduate student population. There will be appropriate workload adjustments for taking on this administrative role. We will consider individuals with expertise in any area of Speech-Language Pathology. Start date is negotiable, beginning as early as August 20, 2020.

Required qualifications include previous teaching experience, the ability to create an inclusive learning environment for diverse populations, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, students, and staff from various backgrounds. Preferred qualifications include a doctorate in Communication Sciences and Disorders or a related discipline, ASHA certification, previous experience with admissions, student recruitment, retention and/or advising, and proficiency with online platforms for teaching and administrative tasks.

Emerson’s CSD program, one of the oldest and most respected in the country, is highly ranked and offers state-of-the-art, accessible, on-campus clinical facilities and a wide array of off-campus clinical sites, integrating our students and faculty with regional communities. Through our traditional on-campus programs and our innovative online Speech@Emerson program, we prepare a diverse population of students for excellence in Speech-Language Pathology.

Emerson College enrolls over 4,535 graduate and undergraduate students from all 50 states and more than 59 countries. Its main campus is located in the dynamic multicultural city of Boston. The college also has campuses in Los Angeles and the Netherlands. Emerson’s commitment to inclusive excellence is supported by a range of resources such as the Director of Faculty Development and Diversity, the Social Justice Center (including the Elma Lewis Center for Civic Engagement, Learning and Research), and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.
