Position: 

The College of Health Professions invites applications for two tenure-track, 9-month Assistant or Associate Professor positions in the Department of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology beginning August, 2022. One position will focus on pediatric speech-language development/disorders; the other position will be open to all specialty areas.


Qualifications: 

Applicants should have a research doctoral degree in speech-language pathology or related field. ABD applications will be considered with initial appointment at the Instructor rank; all degree requirements must be completed by February 28, 2023. ASHA CCC-SLP certification and current (or eligibility for) Maryland licensure are required. Candidates wishing to be considered for the rank of associate professor should have at least 6 years of experience teaching in higher education or comparable qualifications, and demonstrate a clear line of scholarship with outcomes. Candidates should have a commitment to working with a diverse group of faculty, staff, and students and to cultivating and strengthening a diverse and inclusive healthcare workforce.


Responsibilities: 

Primary responsibilities include: (1) Teaching: Research active instructors teach 6 units over a 10-month academic year in a highly diverse, student-focused program; provide high-quality instruction at the undergraduate and graduate levels; advise and mentor students as they matriculate through the program and prepare to enter the profession; clinical supervision may also be included. (2) Scholarship: Development/continuation of a focused area of research that includes peer-reviewed publications, professional presentations, grant funding, and involvement in scholarly projects with students; (3) Service: Active service participation at the university, community, and professional levels.


Department Information: 

The Department of Speech-Language Pathology & Audiology currently has 17 full-time faculty who teach nearly 250 undergraduate students. The Department’s graduate programs enroll over 90 students in the Master’s degree program in Speech-Language Pathology, and over 60 students in an Audiology clinical doctorate program. The Department values diversity and inclusion and encourages interdisciplinary activities. The Department has two main clinical centers, the Speech & Language Center and the Hearing & Balance Center; these two centers are part of the College’s Institute for Well-Being, which is the University’s premiere interprofessional education and practice center.
