Audiology Full Time Assistant/Associate Professor, Appointment Stream

 

POSITION: Assistant/Associate Professor, Appointment Stream (outside of the tenure stream), Full-Time (12-month) faculty member within the Department of Communication Science and Disorders, School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Pittsburgh. We are seeking a full-time faculty member to serve a key role in the AuD academic and clinical curriculum.

STARTING DATE: Between July 1, 2021 and December 30, 2021

 

DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES: 

 1. Provide classroom and clinical instruction during the 12-month calendar year (Fall, Spring, Summer) to support the educational mission of the 

     program and according to the needs of the department. This may include both undergraduate and graduate level education.

 2. Serve as the AuD Externship Coordinator including:

a. clinical coordination for the year-long externship experience,

b. recruit and vet new clinical sites,

c. initiate affiliation contracts,

d. train and maintain communication with preceptors,

e. create and manage remediation plans as necessary

f. implement clinical placement of students in specific experiences based on their individual educational and personal needs.

g. Interface at a national level for Externship positions and preceptor issues

 3. Work closely with the Vice-Chair of Clinical Education to support coordinated clinical training across the AuD program.

 4. Work closely with the AuD Program Director to ensure that Academic standards are met (including in coursework taught)  and by students prior to graduation through academic advising process.

 5. Maintain knowledge about current program accreditation and certification standards and trends.

 6. Provide audiology services as part of clinical education activities.

 7. Maintain broad and deep understanding of clinical service provision models and clinical education models, within the context of current and 

     emerging national educational, healthcare, and related issues and policies.

 8. Mentor AuD students completing required research projects.

 9. Participate in student recruitment.

10. Participate in department, school, university and professional service.

11. Participate in productive scholarship in area(s) of expertise.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD or equivalent research doctoral degree in audiology, clinical certification (or eligible for certification), and PA state licensure (or  eligible for PA state licensure). Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in audiology and a minimum of 3 years of experience with teaching in the       classroom and/or clinic is preferred.


EXPECTATIONS: Experience-teaching:  Candidate will demonstrate successful experience and/or a strong motivation for excellence and innovation in classroom, clinical, and laboratory instruction and teaching. Experience and/or interest in remote learning and use of simulations in education preferred. 

Experience-Service: Candidate will demonstrate successful academic collaboration and/or a strong motivation for such collaboration and building and maintaining excellence in scholarly work and clinical education in a research-intensive department, school, and university.
