The CAPCSD Board of Directors approved A Guide for Future Practitioners in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology: Core Functions on April 3, 2023. This document is intended as a guide for educational programs in speech-language pathology or audiology and individuals seeking a career in these professions.
|
It identifies the core functions that individuals of such programs typically are expected to employ in didactic and clinical experiences to acquire the knowledge and demonstrate the competencies that will lead to graduation and successful entry into professional practice. This document replaces the Essential Functions document previously offered by CAPCSD, and continued use of the previous document is strongly discouraged.
You can find the document here and watch a recorded webinar here to learn more about CAPCSD's Core Functions.

Committee Highlight - Online Professional Development
|
The Online Professional Development Committee began in 2019 as an ad hoc committee focused on developing online educational offerings for members. Over the past few years, the ad hoc committee evolved into a standing committee being renamed the Online Professional Development (OPD) committee. Over that initial period, the committee focused on how to develop processes and procedures to offer online education to fulfill the vision, mission, and core values of CAPCSD.
Today the Online Professional Development Committee is chaired by Jana Waller who is supported by Jayne Jaskolski, Samantha Lewis, Jessica Sullivan, Jacqueline “Jack” Towson, and Yunfang Zheng. Support from Colleen Schneider, CAPCSD Professional Development Manager, is an invaluable resource to the committee as well. The committee works to develop innovative online educational offerings to provide members with valuable and engaging content. By actively evaluating the needs and interests of members, these online offerings provide a resource to advance individual professional development and to support programs.
One focus of the OPD committee has been to develop an online mechanism to engage with members. In December, the OPD committee hosted the first capstone forum in the new CAPCSD Zoom platform. Fall webinar topics were revisited during the capstone forum through a guided discussion. The committee is now planning a spring forum and considering how to format the forum to support conversations and foster collaborations.
Another recent focus of the OPD committee has been to share information about webinars earlier to allow members to plan their schedule in advance. The committee strives to develop an entire semester (i.e., fall, spring, and summer) of webinar sessions months ahead of the actual offerings. Summer 2024 sessions are actively in development with a focus on interprofessional and clinical education topics. You can always view upcoming webinar sessions here to save the dates on your calendar. Registration information is typically shared via email approximately 4 weeks before each webinar.
Webinar sessions will be on pause through March and April while the focus shifts to the CAPCSD Annual Conference and CAPCSD Virtual Conference. I encourage you to join an upcoming webinar offering this summer. In closing, as monitoring officer for the Online Professional Development committee, I welcome your feedback. Feel free to contact me at VPOPD@CAPCSD.org with your comments and suggestions.
