Description

This session will provide an overview of best practices for online teaching. It will include strategies for designing and structuring modules, delivering instructional materials across multiple modalities, and promoting learner interaction with peers, the instructor, and course content. Led by: The University of Pittsburgh's School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, Office of Online Learning. The OOL collaborates with faculty to design and develop fully-online courses and programs.

Learning Objectives:
  • Describe ways of providing consistency in course navigation and document design
  • Explain common instructional modalities for synchronous and asynchronous delivery in online environments
  • Introduce a variety of student engagement techniques

Katy Holt, is the Instructional Technologist at Pitt’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences. She’s passionate about finding resourceful, needs-driven solutions to challenges and is excited to collaborate on projects related to teaching and learning.

Rae Mancilla, Ed.D, is a Senior Instructional Designer with the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. In addition, she is a Quality Matters Reviewer, Middle States Evaluator, and IBSTPI Scholar. Her research interests include the professional development of instructional designers, digital accessibility, and language learning and technology.
