Successful Strategies for CAPCSD Ph.D. Scholarship Applicants

This year, CAPCSD will award up to eight $20,000 scholarships for Ph.D. candidates pursuing an academic career in communication sciences and disorders. The scholarships are distributed to help doctoral students fund their dissertation research or other expenses during their final year of Ph.D. work. Vikram Dayalu, CAPCSD's Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research Education will address applicant eligibility criteria, components of a successful application, the review process, and how past awardees have used their funding to complete the final stages of their programs. Erin Clinard, a 2018 recipient of a PhD Scholarship, will share her experience in writing her successful application and then using the funding to help her complete her dissertation. The deadline for applications is November 15, 2019, so be sure to join this webinar to learn how you can position yourself for one of these awards!

Vikram Dayalu has a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Speech Pathology and Audiology and a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders. He oversees the Fluent and Dysfluent Speech Laboratory at Seton Hall University. Vikram currently serves as CAPCSD's Vice President for Academic Affairs and Research Education.


Erin Clinard is the Coordinator of the Online Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and is an instructor in the CSD department at James Madison University. Erin specializes in pediatric neurodevelopment and has practiced and supervised graduate clinicians in various settings including not-for-profit centers, university clinic, and acute care hospitals.  Her research investigates the efficacy of innovative approaches, such as simulation, to clinical education.
