On June 29, 2023, the U.S. Supreme Court held that consideration of individual student race for admissions violated the Fourteenth Amendment's Equal Protection Clause and that all colleges and universities that receive federal financial assistance must comply with this clause. In this presentation, we will discuss what this decision means for admissions practices and related areas in CSD programs. For decades, the professions of audiology and speech-language pathology have been committed to ensure the preparation of professionals who understand and can meet the unique challenges of our clients from all backgrounds. While it is critical for university programs to comply with the law, it also is important for programs to use all legally permissible methods to achieve the student body diversity articulated in their mission and goals. The manner in which programs do this will likely be influenced by the local culture and legal environment.
